I am overwhelmed. My fiance and I set a date 9-2-2012 at the watermill shortly after we got engaged. We ended up backing out for several reasons ( we won't get into that). We have been engaged over a year now and still haven't set a place or date and its driving me crazy! I feel like this is suppose to be a joyful experience and it hasnt. We have looked and soooo many places. But money is an issue or lack thereof. We just purchased a house and I just finished school and paying that debt off. Top three where Crestwood Country Club, Chateau La Mer, and Larkfield. We thought maybe even Duck Walk vineyards due to the fact that we got engaged there (too expensive). We have looked at Smithtown Landing. I loved it. However, my mother didn't. My fiance loved it too. We recently looked at The Sands and Lido Beach and I really loved it as well. Its hard to get the family involved or to approve. I try to include them but they never are happy. So I'm ready to do what makes me happy and of course my finace considering we are paying for it. So my questions are if you have viewed, been to, or gotten married to either Smithtown Landing or The Sands can you tell me what you think?? I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Re: Vendor/Date
I think the most important thing is to decide what matters to you and your FH. Make a list of important things that matter in a RH. Then also look at price point, since you and FH are paying for it, you guys need to decide what you comfortable paying.
The only one I can say anything about is Chateau La Mer, I liked it, the main ball room is beautiful-- the upstairs room was shabby looking and on the day we visited it stank of fish inside.
Good luck!

Re: Vendor/Date
Thanks for the great advice! I will do that....I'm all over the place. That will help us focus in on what we want. I change my mind a lot..so I haven't and won't make any decisions yet.

Re: Vendor/Date
how many people are you having?
We got married at East WInd in the Veranda room. Its a smaller room upstairs. I had about 160 people there and it was a perfect fit. The food, service and venue were great.
I wasn't willing to have a friday/sunday wedding so I had to scale down on the room/venue. I thought I was going to have to get married and a not so nice place but this place was perfect. It's pretty far east though.
THe other thing is you dont need approval from anyone but FH. If you start asking for too many opinions you will go crazy. The sooner you realize that the easier ti will be to plan a wedding.

Re: Vendor/Date
We have about 120 last I checked. I never looked at East Wind. I will have to check it out. I'm not set on one particular day. Although I would like a night wedding and I would like to be the only wedding but lots of places seem to have two or three weddings going at a time. Thanks for your advice. I will try and follow it. I guess I care too much what others think...

Did you look at Thatched Cottage? They have great prices, in my opinion and you get a lot for your money! Plus the place is beautiful! Of course, I may be a bit biased ;)

Re: Vendor/Date
FH and I looked at Smithtown Landing and they were very reasonably priced. My friend also got married there and she said that they were amazing. We both spoke with Rich who was awesome. Hes very easy to talk to and very willing to negotiate. They only do 1 wedding at a time which is a must for me. And like the other girls said, you only need the approval of you and your FH. The day is about you guys not anyone else. Do what makes you guys happy!

Re: Vendor/Date
I am in the same boat as you (own a house, have grad school debt and planning a wedding), have you tried looking at the places you like but alter your date? I know someone who is getting married on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and they said they got a much better price.

Re: Vendor/Date
I'm booked at SLCC and can't be happier about it. With that said you have to do whats best for you and your FH. I know not everyone will agree with our decision to have the wedding there because its not a typical wedding hall since its a country club but its our day and it was what we could afford and we loved the location, food etc. Rich is beyond amazing to work with and everyone that has been married there has nothing but great things to say about the overall experience. They are having a showcase on Jan 8th so you should go with just your FH and taste some of the food and walk around alone. Btw I just heard on the radio today that 94.3 is going to have a contest I think called Free Ride for the Bride and the prize is a paid wedding at SLCC so you might want to look into the contest. The commercial said details coming soon so thats all I know about it.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
