Vendors of Color
I been reading posts on this board for some time. And of all the recommendation of vendors, rarely do I see recommendations for vendors of color (eg: photograpghy, video. limos ect.) I find it hard to beleive that all the good vendors are of a lighter shade. Can any of you brides recommend a vendor of color that you are using or have heard is good. (You don't have to be a bride of color to recommend a GOOD vendor of color. As for my wedding cake it is being made by the cake diva, not because she is a vendor of color but, because her cakes are outrages and alot cheaper than Slyvia Weinstcok

Are you joking? What difference does it make what 'color' the vendor is? A good vendor is a good vendor. What 'color' are you looking for someone to recommend? A lighter shade of what? You lost me.

I Understand Your Post Jackee:o)!!!!
Hi Jackee! I too am a CakeDiva Girl!!! She is not only making the 'fiercest' groom's cake known, but other stuff too!! I LOVE Charmaine! She is quite creative, much more so than just flower replicas!! She is reasonable too! I was just at her studio this past weekend... On to other vendors...There are PLENTY of WONDERFUL vendors of color... My gown designer is UNBELIEVABLE and he is of color (Paul Campbell Couture) as well as plethora of other designers of color... There are event planners (Your Cup of Tea) and a host of other vendors! It doesn't have to matter to everyone, but adding color to the many options just makes it a more beautiful picture to choose from, you know? I get it:o)...and good luck planning! Ayanna

I'm not sure I understand either. I booked my vendors based on their performance not skin color. I would have booked my vendors whether they were green or purple. To me the most important aspect was the service and performance they deliver.

Whether or not you agree with what Jackee wants, can everyone at least respect the fact that it seemed important to her? Instead of ripping on someones values let`s try to understand them. Our wedding day is supposed to be perfect, and everyone has different standards of what measures up to perfection, I don`t think it is fair to judge someone elses.

I don't think I ripped on Jackee's values or do I feel I judged her. All I said was I didn't understand what she meant. It's absolutely her wedding and she should book whoever she feels comfortable with! I know I did!

Vendors of Color
I can understand totally what she meant...As an African American Bride I really tried hard to find vendors that both met my standards of quality and my need to support my community that often has had to struggle for recognition in this very competative business...all races or ethnicities and/or religious groups do it so I dont know why anyone is STRUGGLING to understand it. I looked high and low for a photographer. I am absolutely overjoyed with my choice of photographer www.edcollinsphoto.com both because of the quality of his work AND because he is an individual of color. My DJ is Entertainment Intergrators...1800-EIHASIT ...in a word PHENOMENAL...I have been to two weddings they did and they know how to move a diverse crown. If I can be of any further assistance in this area email me [email protected] I recently went to the African American and Caribbean bridal show and still have the list of vendors showcased Good luck Jen

Vendors of Color (Kathi)
Kathi Thanks for the recommendation and to answer your question I'm not saying ALL the recommended vendors were not of color. What I am saying is that very few that have been recommmended are of color.

Vendors of Color
Kate, since you seem to be lost let me help you find your way. First, you are absolutely right........A good vendor is a good vendor. Second, if I choose to give my business to a vendor of color that is my choice. You have the right to select any vendor you choose and so does the next bride.

Vendors of Color (Jenny B)
Thanks for the info. I'll look into them. I don't understand 'What is the big deal 'of me choosing a vendor of my choice. Everyone does it ! It's my wedding. I'm paying for it. and it being planned my way. I am too an african American however my FI is not. If he does not have a problem with me giving my business to my people why should anyone else.. Thanks for letting me vent,

Thanks for backing me up. There is enough vendors out there for everyone, some good to some , and some bad to others. As you know planning a wedding can be very stressfull and I will not be streesed out about closed minded brides who post on this board. ..Thanks again.

I Understand Your Post Jackee:o)!!!!
You're rigt Charmaine is awesome!!! I have gotten a cake from her two years ago, and it was out of this world. What are the flavors and filing in your cake. My previous cake from her was strawvberry and pineapple, I wanted to do something different for my wedding cake. I have also tasted her lemon cake and pink champagne cake. I liked the lemon only. I 'm just looking to try something diffrent with this next cake. By the way my wedding cake is going to be a castle.

Vendors of Color - DJ suggestion
Hi Jackee; For a DJ, you could check out Spin Around Sound. Tom's partner Anthony would meet your criteria and Spin Around has a great reputation. Anthony is going to be spinning the tunes for our mostly Italian crowd next month.

Vendors of Color - DJ suggestion
Look at that, I am also using Spin Around Sound. I've only met Tom, who is 'a lighter shade', however Anthony will also be at my wedding and Since I've heard nothing but good things I'm more than pleased to have contracted this vendor of 'color'. Everyone absolutely has the right to hire who they wish. But as far as being close minded, I guess I am. I DON'T see color.

Let`s put the shoe on the other foot
'I have been coming here awhile and all I mainly see are recommendations for vendors of color. Can anyone recommend a GOOD vendor of a lighter shade?' Now, tell me HONESTLY how would that be perceived? Not very well I can guarantee you that. Just something to think about

It should all be GREY...
Base your vendor on quality, experience and personal taste and let's not get into the 'shade' debate.

Let`s put the shoe on the other foot
Another Brides opinion...I agree with you. I did not base ANY of my vendor choices on their 'shade of color' I went by what they had to offer and their experience in the field. Each bride has her own opinion on what vendor to choice and if the bride feels that a vendor of 'color' would be best for the job rather than the best person then I hope that they will be happy. Good Luck to all with whomever they choose! Lisa

Let`s put the shoe on the other foot
I have to agree with Lisa Rose and 'another bride' here. I do not consider someone`s color, ethnicity, religious backround etc when selecting a vendor. A good vendor is a good vendor. I agree that everyone has a right to choose whomever they wish, however, how will this country ever attain true equality if we all give our business to 'our people'? Arent we being discriminating by doing that? Just something to think about.

Vendors of Color - NONE AROUND
Well that was quite a post. I have never heard such a comment on this board. I planned from across the country and didn't see anyone I talked to on the phone. So I had no idea what race they were when I was meeting them. I found the vendors in wedding pages and all over the web, so obviously the 'COLORED PEOPLE' are not advertising like the 'LIGHTER SHADES' That's why your not getting any colored leads.

I kind of understand...
I can definetly say that I booked my vendors because they were good not because of the color of their skin. But neither did I find Jackees question offensive. I quess because when it came to booking a D.J I was only looking at company's or freelancers that were from spanish orgin?? Why because my wedding reception will be 97% of spanish decent, so I was looking for both a deejay and MC that will cater to my quest. Don't get me wrong a Great Deejay can play you anytype of music, but I have been to so many weddings where the Deejay was not hispanic and could not get the crowd pumping, must were trying so hard that they were just plain corney. This was not a basis choice but just something I personally prefered. Just food for thought......Welcome New Vendors
