we're getting ready to start assembling our invitations so I figured I'd take my sample to the Post Office to get it weighed just to double check the postage on it.
Get this.... our invites are the size and weight of a .58 cent stamp, although they decided to check the thickness using some cardboard template that they slide the invite through and they said that since it didn't go through the template with ease (because of the ribbons holding in our inserts) that it would cost .97 cents!! This is part of the new regualtions. Can you beleive that?? Ugh!! So our inivtes pass 2 out of 3 regualtions to make it .58
I hate the post office!! And of course the .97 stamps are so ugly!! So they suggested to put a .41 and a .58 cent wedding stamps on and we'd end up paying .99 then, but at least be able to use the wedding stamp still.
so aggravated!! going to try another Post Office and see what happens. otherwise it will be costing us almost $1.40 per invite!!
shoot me now

Re: vent about new POSTAGE regulations!!
I put 2 forever stamps and 1 seventeen cent stamp on mine. I had the same problem as you...my weight was 2 oz. but because of the 'large' size of the envelope i had to put additional postage...i know its awful!
but good luck.... dont worry yoursel too much with the beauty of your stamps...if you want to just put ONE stamp you can try www.zazzle.com and custom make your own postage , but you'll be paying double the amt...
good luck

Re: vent about new POSTAGE regulations!!
SO many brides are having issues with postage - i went to 3 different post offices and all the clerks were telling me about all the complaints they have had with brides and their postage - They kept telling me they did all they could do with that postage they had

Re: vent about new POSTAGE regulations!!
Has anyone tried going to the big post office in manhatten? I have no idea if they are any better but maybe they would have a better selection of stamps or some other options. I was planning on going there in the next week or so.

I couldnt wait for the new stamp I sent out my OOT invites already so I ended up ordering my stamps from zazzle, com. Everyone that got the invites said they loved the stamp.

Don't mess around with it - just pay the $0.97 and rest assured your invites will get delivered.
TWO different post offices told me I only needed $0.58 -- and STILL I had invites returned for 'postage due' saying they needed $0.97. I mailed them at the post office that told me TWICE the $0.63 stamps that I put on them were enough postage -- that very same post office sent back 8 of my invitations for postage due. I'm lucky it wasn't more than that.
Just pay the money and save yourself the headache I had.

OMG -- that's awful!! I totally understand what you're saying too -- who needs the added stress of invites being returned for postage.

Re: vent about new POSTAGE regulations!!
That really stinks! I am assuming I will have this problem too b/c I have a ribbon on my invite.
Do you mind me asking what size your invites are, square or rectangular?

I heard June 27th too! I just don't get it -- if they knew the fee for postage was coming why weren't they prepared for things like wedding stamps?
My envelopes were a standard size of 5.5 x just about 8 inches rectangle

Crazy right? See what happens if you take your smashing cards proof to get weighed -- let me know how you make out.

I bought zazzle stamps for my rsvp 41 cent stamps. They are sooo nice. I personalized them.
