so last night i was looking over the paperwork for the menu finalization and the breakdown of payments...
and there was a checklist they printed for me of everythign i need by my final appointment..
then it said Maitr'd tip(day of) $450 <~ CIRCLED!
uhmm im not even having 100 people
is this normal? and im thinking.. how DARE they tell ME how much to TIP. 450 for 80 people. ***? no way
did your halls write down how much and circle it?

ours said it was 3-5% , but then we negotiated our prices to INCLUDE tax, service charge (waiter gratuities), and maitre-d tip... and it's in the contract!! i made sure of it...
$450 sounds like a lot of money, though. at 5% ours would have been around that, and we're guaranteeing 200 people

Lol!!! They didn't tell me how much to give but said $1-$3 pp, and I too am having 80 people, i hope!! I have over invited and so far I don't have enough no's!!

yeah we're required to tip $3 per person for the maitre'd (at a 200 person min)
ordinarily i wouldnt care but thats ON TOP of a 20% svce charge andddddddd
our maitre d' licks major major hairy salty b@lls.

i thought it they gave you an amount pp... not a set amount... and shouldnt tips be based on the quality of service... im all for a standard tip amount at some restaurants... but for something like this id wait until after to decide what the tip is going to be

That's crazy. I'm having under 100 people too most likely and there is no way they would get that much from me. A tip is supposed to be at your discretion, not what they want. If you don't give $450 what are they going to send you a check in the mail or something

that's a crazy amount if you are not even having 100 people! we had 140 people and gave our maitre d $525....I'd say $350 is a good amount for your number
oh wait your having 80 people? nah I'd say about $300 then, and that's being generous!

My hall just told us an amount that you should tip around which I dont remember what it was... its def. not written on our contract or anything
