so last night i was looking over the paperwork for the menu finalization and the breakdown of payments...
and there was a checklist they printed for me of everythign i need by my final appointment..
then it said Maitr'd tip(day of) $450 <~ CIRCLED!
uhmm im not even having 100 people
is this normal? and im thinking.. how DARE they tell ME how much to TIP. 450 for 80 people. ***? no way
did your halls write down how much and circle it?

I can completely understand where you're coming from - especially give all the $ we pay for the RH. BUT on the flip side, my mother is a Bridal Attendant (similar to maitr'd) and I know she works VERY hard for every wedding. She puts in 18 hours shifts and is on her feet running all day. While it, of course, depends on the size of the wedding, the number of hours (ceremony incl or not?) and the place, $450 is not completely unreasonable. Especially since their salary, if any, by the RH is minimal (they are tip-based).

and I might have mentioned that while circling it can be slightly tacky - a lot of ppl do not realize or remember to tip the MD or BA so they walk out empty handed at the end of the night after all of their very hard work.

thats bs, a tip is subjective, yes they *recommend* i think $3-6 pp but its totally up to you, and in no way are you obligated to give that much (which comes out to 5.60 a person about and is definitely ont he high end) especially if they do a crappy job, i would totally disregard

i think 450 is nuts for 80 people. i wouldnt do it. give them the standard $3-5pp and give them a favor. sianaraaaa

mine didnt write, but BM did made sure to say and customary for 100 ppl even to MD is 400-600. what pizzed me off was that at the booking apt a yr ago he said $3-5 pp
whatever! I say give what u want and feel is right I am not giving more than 350 at the mostest

You said you were having 70 people the other day and there is no way in H E L L I would tip that much for that number of people. I would do more like $3-350

Giorgio's actually told me $500 but they told me up front. It comes out to less than 3 bucks per person for me. (im estimating 175)

that is BS! Mine was circled too, but it was $300 I think. But then he said it's usually $3-4 a person.
So, for them to say you have to tip $450 for 80 people is insane!!!!!! Tip what you want. Ughhhh I hate that shiiiiiit. And from reading your posts, you seem to be a good tipper/gifter and not cheap with your money, so F them. That would piss me off too.

I just wrote that I thought it was $300. I'm pretty sure that is it. Nick also said usually $3-4 a person.
So Barb should only be tipping $240-320 for 80 people. I'm having 200 people, but really don't want to tip $600+ Ughhhh
My BM said a suggested tip for the maitre d is $4 per person.
For an 80 person wedding, $450 is a bit high! Did they know you were only going to have 80 ppl when you signed the contract? If you had told them you estimated 100-120 ppl then maybe that's what they based it on.
