Ok, well FH was able to speak to FFIL about the whole situation and FFIL apologizd for the way he acted. He said he didn't understand at first why they were excluded and jumped to conclusions, so I guess everything is ok from here?

I have a similar situation- My Dad is paying for the whole thing- they never offered- My Dad wanted to put both- I fought him ( they have 1 son- and they aren't broke) So we decided just to put our names- my Dad's idea

OMG my parents did the same thing to my brother. They just mentioned the brides parents (my SIL) in the invites because like you said it's old fashioned. So my parents were all pissed because they were paying for some of the wedding and hers weren't paying a dime. Parent's can be very annoying sometimes! Anyway they forgave him and came all the way from NY to Cali for his wedding. So don't worry, it will be okay and they will get over it!!
