Venue Issues-this got long.

Original post by bemyyoko

I am so angry/sad right now.
I love my venue BUT the past two days have started to take their toll. Before we booked with them a lot of 'promises' were made and i definately should have had them on the contract BUT it didnt seem necasary.
We were told we wouldnt have to worry about sharing the bathroom b/c of the location of our room and the day of the week and the time of year.
We were told that our guests could linger a while in our CH room before the reception but after the scheduled CH b/c that's the room we loved and why we booked the location.

However, it turns out that our CH room is being used for a reception. Which is fine. And the other bride seems to be a lovely one and is a fellow LIWeddings bride and i'm very excited for her and everything. This is in no way a reflection on how i feel about her or her wedding.

SOOO... we basically get rushed out of the CH so they can set up for her reception which starts 30 minutes later. They will be moving tables in while our guests are switching rooms, her musicians will be setting up during our CH. AND since the rooms are right next to eachother we're sharing a bathroom.

I called yesterday and was told a whole bunch of stuff that totally calmed me down. Then my BM called today and made me feel like cr*p. He basically negated everything that was said yesterday, he used a tone of voice that made me feel like i was being reprimanded by my father, he was blunt, and seemed to get angry with me, and he seemed to be in a rush to get off the phone. I was hysterical by the time i got off the phone with him. He said he's never in 20 years ever told anyone that they wouldnt share a bathroom. He said that myself, my fiance, and my mother were all mistaken b/c he knows his sales pitch and he knows he has NEVER said that. He basically called me a liar.

So the three of us had the same halucination??

Everyone I talk to gives me a differant maximum number for my room. I don't know what i'm doing, they all know that, and are treating me like an idiot.

I'm so close to just calling the whole thing off right now and going to town hall and having a BBQ. Seriously, I've never felt so stupid. I totally feel like i got played and i don't know what to do about it.

Do you think sharing a bathroom with another wedding is a problem that I should be concerned about? Should I just get over the CH/Reception room issue b/c they've been doing this for decades and know what they are doing and most likely will not interfere with my wedding or disturb my guests while setting up for hers?

I'm just sick of 'calm down it will be fine' i want to know HOW and WHY it'll be fine. I want someone to tell me that sharing a bathroom is fine and mean it, i want to hear what other people think about the tables and dj and everything.
Help?

i'm sorry about this... you should always have everything in your contract.

Yup BUT i think i'm realizing that the reason i didnt put it in my contract is b/c in the end it's not a big deal. at all. It's a bathroom, not the dancefloor.

Also, we have an elevator in our reception room that goes right upstairs and apparently there are other bathrooms right there. No big deal.
*takes a deep breath and starts to stop freaking out*

hey!!! Im so sorry you are upset!! I dunno why they told you you would have the bathroom to yourself. i have been booked with them for over a year so its not like they didn't know there was another wedding. And dont worry- I know you are not upset with me or anything. And I know you know its not a big deal- its more that they told you you had it to yourself and are now denying it. When FH and i have had some issues with them, he has gone there in person and it is usually taken care of right away. Also you mentioned you hired PWP right? Def call them and talk to them!!!! They may be able to help you out since not only are they part of teh fox hollow, they are also hired by you. FM if you need to vent or talk about anything!!

I personally would write a letter to the scotto family telling them how dissatisfied you are with how your BM is handling your wedding....that promises were made and not kept and its really not acceptable...tell them you're considering cancelling your contract and that you are an avid poster on LIW and that you will be FORCED to explain your experience with this hall....

That might get things done a little better....good luck chick...I wouldn't stress...you're wedding is going to be beautiful regardless....

I would be pissed about the CH. But the bathroom I understand. We had our E-party ther ein the garden room. It's beautiful!!! And they were very good to us. We werent' rushed at all. And there was a wedding coming in after my party. But they waited until we all left to start setting up. I highly doubt they will start setting up during your CH. They have 30min in between so that is a good amount of time. And the bathroom thing I owuldn't worry about. Alot of places share bathroom. And honestly no one will know. ANd no one will care. you won't see anyone one else.

OK, I know saying 'everything will be OK' won't work....but it will be ok!

I was in a wedding at the FH and there were other weddings going on. The bathroom is big, and the place is big too. My friend never had any problems facing the other bride/party and was really happy with the way it went.

As far as the coctail hour, if you could work it that you go to your CH, then I think it would ease the anxiety of guests thinking it's rude/strange. Were you planning on attending your CH???

Re: Venue Issues-this got long.

I was thinking of asking the fox hollow to extend my cocktail hour (which will be going on in the lantern gallery during hers and then my reception is in WGP) by 15 minutes, but I do not want to pay more to do this. And then I would want them to extend the reception by 15 minutes. Do you think they will do this? Im also worried about only having 30 minutes for my DOC to set up my centerpieces. Pics are in my album of what she has to set up. But think more votives than shown- thats just all we had at the moment. I called yesterday and the BM I spoke to said we wioll have an hour to set up. They are totally confusing us!!

All Ron kept saying is 'I appologize but that's all I can do everything will be fine'

When i tried to discuss the time issue he actually told me that your reception starts at either 9:15 or 9:30
I said NO i spoke to Gina and she said 9pm
He said he doesnt think that's right.

*rips hair out* no one knows what they're doing!!!

I worry that if I do something like that they will just say 'Okay Cancel' b/c they have a much better reputation than I do lol. I do not want to cause a bigger problem with the venue.
I do think telling them about the BM is a good idea though. The thought of having to deal with him at my wedding is making me angry.

They seem to have a high turn over rate for BMs. Two we have dealt with are now on 'extended vacation leave.' We dont really have one anymore. I just call and ask to speak with any banquet manager when I call.

Ron has been with them for something like 20 years BUT he left and started his own catering hall place and now works with them part time. I think i was star struck when i met him b/c his son is one of my all time favorite musicians. I feel like i always make bad decisions.... ugh.

and NO! they have no clue we talk to eachother even though i said your name and everything!! GRRRR

I definately understand what your saying and ultimately its your call, but NO ONE wants to hear negative reviews going out about a hall because they know its not jsut your business they lose....but maybe 10 other brides...ya know....they go to Jericho Terrace or Westbury Manor instead....I still would write a formal complaint and request that your affair be handled by a diff BM...this guy sounds like a tool!
