Very interesting question......

Okay so one of my engaged friendssaid this to me today and asked my opinion on it.. and I really didn't know what to say??????

She has a beautiful engagement ring.. a carat... white gold.. exactly what she wanted.....she asked for at least a carat and white gold not yellow.. those were her 'requests' well her best friend who is married as an engagement ring that SHE LOVES LOVES LOVES and kinda pictured her ring to be like THAT RING.... that is what she was invisioning.. it's a bit bigger....and is a bit more RAISED.... and she kinda hinted to her FH that she really liked 'THAT RING' but her FH picked out something slightly different.. but it is still VERRY PRETTY.. she said to me at work that she would NEVER WANT TO SWITCH THE RING SHE HAS... because it's from her FH and she loves that he picks out. but that she has some slight envy for her friends ring and constantly stares at it.. so she says to me..
'IS THIS HORRIBLE OF ME?'

I was like no.. it's NOT HORRIBLE.. you just like the ring.. but you love yours because it's from the love of your life...

I wasn't sure how to answer this?? anyone have thoughts??? I felt bad like I kinda screwed her over with one of those 'GENERIc' NO ITS FINE.. answers!

i think everyone has a little ring envy at times.....you could have designed it yourself and then you see something else and your like hummmm thats really nice too! doesnt make you horrible,it just (and as sterotypical as this is) makes you a woman! i'm guilty of it from time to time! but then someone compliments my ring and i get all gushy again!

I feel like if she is really obsessing over this ring and staring at it all the time, maybe she cares about that material object more than the more important things... Depends on how great the obession is... We can all say we thought someone elses ring was prettier than ours but we move on.... ya know?

personally, my ring wasnt what i had envisioned but i absolutely love it and wouldnt trade it for the world... b/c its not about the ring but what it symbolizes... i told him it coulda been from a quarter machine and i woulda loved it ....

So basically what im saying...is if you're obsessing over someone else's then maybe theres a bigger issue with what the marriage really means to you (being general of course )
