Very Rough Weekend

Very Rough Weekend

Monday was my first day as a sub...Sunday on my way home from FH's house, I ran over a raised manhole and it messed my car up...the airbags came out on the passenger side and oil started leaking out and my car started smoking, I didn't get home until after midnight... Yesterday was a really rough first day, kids have no respect for subs...I have a serious fear of rats, and guess what was in the classroom....you guessed it, a rat.. I managed to stay calm, but it really freaked me out....The kids were so loud and disrespectful....So, to sum everything all up, I may have to shell out a couple thousand dollars because the frickin air bags came out and who knows what damage was done to the bottom of my car...I'll have trouble getting to work now because I don't have a car at my disposal anymore...and working as a sub yesterday has me wondering if i'm getting into the right field....luckily, there were no jobs available today so I got to stay home today and recover, but i'm still just really down and unsure (and scared) of what lies in the future...thanks for listening

So sorry.

R: your car, the town / county / state may be responsible for paying for the repairs if it was something they should have fixed. I had something like this happen to me a few years ago, and I believe the county had to shell out some money. Find out what type of road it was and call that office and see.

I'm actually going through this right now, I filled out a city involved accident report with the city yesterday, I have to pick it up next monday...I hope they reimburse me...With all of these expenses coming up, I really don't have the money

Aww it will get better and you'll get through it. Just remember, like with any job, the more experience you get the better you will be at handling situations such as what you experienced yesterday. Things are always intimidating at first but keep on movin on and you'll only get better and better. Pretty soon you'll be looking back on the rat incident and laughing.

Try to smile. Life has it's ups and downs.

I'm sorry it's been so rough. All i can offer you are

Definitly check into getting the city to pay for the damage to your car. As for kids...my FH is a HS teacher and he consistently wonder what our future will be like with the kids he has in class. At least you are sub-ing and can decided if it is the right career for you.

But I already decided, I'm certified and everything..I just won't be able to work full-time until september .....me and FH are seriously considering opening up a business together though...he's in the videography field...after yesterday, that's really starting to look like a good idea

it'll get better. Just remember it takes time to adjust. Unfortunately subs do take even more of the brunt of bad behavior.

Maybe a business is the route to take. FH always talks about it and honestly sometimes that idea is appealing to me to. There is nothing like being your own boss, though that comes with a price also. If you do want to check out sba.gov...you'll find some info there about starting your own business.

We're here for you!

My first day as a sub was a nightmare too. Have faith that this is the right profession. My first day as a sub was 4 years ago and trust me every day gets better!!!

Re: Very Rough Weekend

oh my that stinks about your car!! i would contact the city about that since it was a man hole and should not have been there.

As far as the subbing goes - dont let that discourage you from teaching.. its hard to be a sub you dont get the respect you deserve, but REAL teaching is not like that!
