As some of you know, we live in an apt in my IL's house. They have a lot of pets. Our dog sees their dogs but our cats don't really see each other because our Pookie is an indoor cat (I'm an overprotective mommy). In any case, MIL comes down to us all upset last night and tells us that their cat, Domino had to be rushed to the vet because her kidneys are blocked and he was very sick. Vet gives him a blood test and he has feline AIDS!!! He is only 6 years old and the only way they can think this happened is he came home once in the past year (indoor/outdoor cat) with a cut on his ear like he was in a fight. The vet has assured us that none of us can get sick because it doesn't travel species, but this is so scary. We have to bring Pookie in to the vet for a blood test and I am terrified. We don't think they've really had contact, but then again, we don't really know.

Re: Very Sad
Wow, that's so sad. I wasn't even aware that animals could get human-like diseases until the beginning of last year when my ILs' dog was diagnosed with cancer. It's terrible that it can happen

Re: Very Sad
I've been doing a lot of reading online tonight about it and it sounds like my kitty (hopefully) doesn't have it just because they have really never been in a physical altercation (the two cats). The other cat is really sick now though and still at the vet. We are going to take our Pookie in tomorrow or Wed for the blood test. I'll keep you guys posted - thanks for the support.

Re: Very Sad
Kathy - I sent you FM!!
I just went through her records - can't tell if she was vaccinated - but it clearly says she was given an AIDS test.

Re: Very Sad
OK - we spoke to the vet and he's not having us bring in our Pookie until Sunday for a blood test - so all we can do until then is keep our fingers crossed and go one as usual. Thanks for all your support - it does help!
