Videographer payment question

I met with Wild Rose, Platinum Video, and Candlelite Video last weekend and I've decided to go with Candlelite video. By the way, all of them were great! Anyway, my payments are arranged so that I pay 1/3 now and the rest (with the exception of $100) a month before my wedding. Is this typical? I worry that I only have $100 security that he'll show up to my wedding. I loved their work and I absolutely want them, but should I worry about this payment set-up?

I think I am paying the same way for my video company, or around that. Most of my vendors will be paid in full before the wedding day. I think that is pretty normal. If you hire a professional, recommended company you shouldn't worry that they will not show up. But if it really concerns you talk to him about it.

I used Candlelite, and had the same payment schedule. My mom was also a little concerned about them being paid before we see the final work, but everything turned out great. I LOVE my video!!!

The reason he said this is done (b/c my mom questioned it) was b/c many couples don't come to pick up their videos for a long time(he said he has some for more than a year!), and he's stuck waiting for the payment after he's already done the work. I guess it makes sense.

I'll list the ones I recommend... Hall- Oheka Castle Flowers- Flowers by Burton (awesome!) Gown- Burtons Bridal Band- NY Swing The string quartet was also great, they were from Five Towns College in Dix Hills. I don't think they are there anymore though. The Rabbi I used was from NJ and performed a beautiful ceremony, but we had problems after getting our Ketubah (it took a year!).

I don't want to interupt 02bride's question (sorry 02bride!), but who are the vendors you don't recommend Lisa? What happened with your Katubah?

Ummmmm....I was not happy with my photographer at all. I will post the story when I pick up my albulm, but until then I would rather not say for fear of some sort of 'retaliation'. You never know who reads the board. As for my ketubah, we were told it would take about 2 months after we got married (November). By March, we hadn't received it so I emailed the Rabbi and he said we should have it by Passover (April), that the artist was 'backed up'. End of May, still no ketubah. Emailed and called a bunch of times...no response. Finally in October he emailed for the info that was on the ketubah (names, dates, etc)and a picture of it from the wedding! Finally got it in November for our one year anniversary. We were very suprised that it was actually the original!

I am a little naieve about this subject, but don't you buy it yourself, bring it with you, sign it there, and bring it home? P.S. Please make sure to post about your photographer. I'm sure it will help other brides! (I am also very nosey!) LOL!!!

In this particular case, the names and dates on the ketubah was to be calligraphied by the artist that designed the ketubah so it would match. it probably should have been done before, but I have no idea why it wasn't.

I would also think that after getting a final product such as the photos and videos, you should pay the rest of the $$. It`s a little weird the way they run things. A DJ suggested to me that I should pay the rest of my payment to the photographer when I get my final pics. No vendor is going to go through with that idea. Sounds good to me though.
