Vinyl Records?

Original post by LIWeddings

Who still has'em?

If so, what?

Just curious!

They sound so much better than CDs or tape. Much warmer and realistic.

I miss my muppets Album.

I had to recreate my Beatles collection. After the divorce my mother sold the whole collection $.25 each record. I nearly died.

My stepmother HATES my obsession with replacing the collection. Once (just to REALLY tick her off) I mounted the entire Beatles collection on my wall. hehe The wall that you HAD to see if my door was open.

Im an huge record fan. Im shocked at how much turntables cost now adays though. I could by 2 CD players for the cost of JUST a turntable.

I technically own every single thing ever released about the Beatles (including their Christmas tapes sent out the their fan clubs and mostly all radio interviews) I have it all on CD, Record or Tape. Re-releases and alternate releases (UK) versions included. I that stupid commemorative plate, rare photos and the original white album (ok condition but missing side 2). All the original movies on VHS.

I own the Red Rose Speedway album by McCartney in absolute mint conditions with the 17 page magazine in perfect condition still attached to it's interior and the 'new songs' sticker still ..err new.. on the front cover.

All of it in cold storage in a basement in the midwest (my parents) where they stay elevated above 10 feet and are boxed in a clearly marked box and position to be immediately moved in case of flood. THey are covered in water resistant materials in layers.

Took too damn long for me to recreate this crap to lose it on a whim. I hope to pass it down. Should be an interesting collection in a few decades. For now the ONLY pieces worth anything is the original white album and the VeeJay album (since it wasn't Capital records and the guys are smoking and wearing plaid on the cover).

Im missing the Wedding Album and an original Butcher's Cover. heh I was such a collector back then, havent even TRIED lately to look for stuff.

We still have Journey and Barry Manalow on 8 track.. why? WHO KNOWS, it's not like we have a working 8 track player!!!!!

I have a bunch of albums and 45s (even have a bunch of the yellow plastic thingies that goes into the middle of the 45 to hold it in place on the turntable).

When my parents sold their house a few years ago, they were going to throw out their old albums. I took them all! Herb Alpert's Taste of Honey and Spanky and Our Gang's debut album are just not replaceable!!

My mom's got a lot of old Cat Stevens and John Denver albums... and Funkadelic too (go Mom!)

She kept the ones I had when I was young, mostly 45's. I think we have Juice Newton and Pat Benetar and Laura Branagin... those were the days!

I have a bunch of my own records, and I inherited all of my dad’s old vinyl when my parents split up. What a collection! I am proud to say that I have every Led Zeppelin and Police album on vinyl. Plus tons of Queen, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Blood Sweat and Tears, Hendrix, the Who…the list goes on and on.

I’m pretty proud of my own records too – I got Motley Crue’s “Shout at the Devil” in Kindergarten! I also have Madness, A Flock of Seagulls, Heaven 17, Elvis Costello…

I could talk about records all day!

I have some at my Mom's house (she still has a record player)...

My mom is a musician and she has recordings from when she was 17 and in the Malverne production of Hello Dolly!!!

As for me, I have a lot of 45s (duran duran, madonna, eddie grant) as well as really old records from when I was 1 or 2- sesame street, disney, etc (they would probably be worth something if I didnt' scratch the heck out of them)

I have a lot of records... and they do sound great! My collection is mostly new wave stuff: Howard Jones, Talk Talk (the original 'It's My Life,' which is a great song), Spandau Ballet, etc.

I have a ton of records - mostly indie bands, imports, things that were never meant to be listened to on CD.

I had to buy a new stereo recently, and it's getting hard to find decent ones that come with turntables...

That is the one thing I want to 'take with me'...... bury me with my vinyls

Re: Vinyl Records?

Yabbobay... I completely agree! On one hand, I've gotta give No Doubt props for picking such a good (and unusual) song to cover. But they butchered it!
