Re: virgin islands honeymoon?

Are you asking about the US Virgin Islands or British Virgin Islands?

I vacationed in the BVIs a couple of years ago. It was an awesome, awesome time.

The USVIs were in the running for our honeymoon-we did a lot of research but decided to go elsewhere in the Caribbean.

If you were asking about the USVIs, are you considering St. Thomas or St. John or St. Croix?

What kind of vacation is ideal for you? Do you want to veg on the beach, or do you need to have lots of activity around you? Do you need all inclusive? Do you like to rough it or would you rather be pampered day and night??

If you can better define what you're looking for, and where you'd like to go, I'll be glad to share my experiences or opinions.

Good luck!!

Re: virgin islands honeymoon?

I was thinking of st. thomas or st. john. i dont know much about bvi's. Where did you go in bvi. Im interested in snorkeling, swimming. laying by the pool or beach, but not just totally vegging. i have heard a lot of conflicting info about hotels in usvi, that with a couple of exceptions like ritz, they arent all that nice. i would like a really nice resort.
where did you chose to go for your honeymoon?

Re: virgin islands honeymoon?

I looked into St. John and St. Thomas, I love the idea of going there. But it just seems like too much money right now. I recommend you look at Caneel Bay or the Westin for St. John. They looked like the nicest places. Let me know what you find. I am still interested.

Re: virgin islands honeymoon?

I have been to St. Thomas & St. John. St. John is the nicer & the more expensive of the 2. Great beaches, shopping, snorkeling, but very small towns. You take a 20 minute ferry boat ride from St. Thomas to St. John & vice versa. I had fun there!

Re: virgin islands honeymoon?

Hi again,

BVI-spent time on Tortola and Virgin Gorda, and then on a friend's boat cruising between Tortola, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. Probably the best vacation I've ever taken! Most activities are around the ocean (snorkling, scuba, sailing). These islands are not as touristy as many other areas of the Carib, which is the kind of place I like. No casinos, limited shopping, lots of peace and quiet, which may not be for everyone.

Last year, one of my BMs spent a week at a rental home on St John in the USVI-and she highly recommended going this route. They stayed a few nights on St Thomas, then ferry to St John. According to her, the house was magnificent, views to die for, it's own pool, hot tub, very private. I think she paid about $ 1500 for the week.

We tried to reserve a couple of homes on St John for our honeymoon, but they were all taken. After more research, we decided to go to Anguilla. We'll split up our time there between St Martin and Anguilla, and hopefully be able to take a day or two trip to St Barths.

Check out www.caribbean-on-line.com-excellent resource for Carib travel. There are forums for each island, and you can join discussion with people who've been to the islands.

Is 7-11 your wedding date? One concern would be that July is the middle of the hurricane season. Prices are low, but the chance of weather problems are higher. I've heard that the further south you go in the Carib, the less likely you'd be in the path of a hurricane.

Did this give you some ideas? Let me know if I can help. I love vacation planning!!!
