Re: votive candles instead of cards..
I was going to do them. Even bought the votives then learned my hall didn't allow it. They said it was a fire hazard having people walking around with lit candles. I agreed when I imagined someone's hair going up in flames..... yikes!!!!!

My sister did them. They cam out so good and pretty. She printed the names on velum paper and then made a demo of the form that fit around the candle and cut all the paper like that. She then used glue tabs to hold them together

I've never heard of votive candle escort cards, but i could definitely could see them being a fire hazard.

I did them....here is a pic.
Just make sure your hall allows them first. My did then my friend was married in July 2009 at Jericho Terrace and they wouldn't let the guests use them as placecards but instead put them on the tables. If you want instructions, fm me.
ETA to add....we used tealight candles in them instead of votives to ensure they wouldn't become too hot. They put the placecard tables right infront of the entrance to the ballroom so the guests weren't really holding them for a lengthly period of time.

Re: votive candles instead of cards..
i saw these on someone's review and thought they were beautiful. I liked how these are more like glasses so the guests can hold them from the bottom and not the part where the candle is in case it is too hot.
here's the link to her review also in case she gave more instructions on how to do it click here
