Re: Want to see my invites?

Adrienne - The font I used on the envelopes is Bickham Script.

070502 - I used the same hot glue that is usually bought in clear for the mini hot glue guns. The resemblance to wax is remarkable. Ive never seen it in craft stores - you have to order online.

Re: Want to see my invites?

Hi again, Stef, my invites use a much simpler font than yours (we chose a wordy invitation prose, and the swirly fonts made the panel look to busy). Thanks for the advice, I'm just running through some now to try and come close to the invite font. Looks like Park Ave may be it.

I'm wondering why you wouldn't recommend trying this with an inkjet. I don't have a laser printer-yipes! Is it a matter of feeding the envelopes, or is it the print quality?

Re: Want to see my invites?

I suppose every inkjet is different but I find that

a)Inkjet ink takes a while to dry and smears easily

b) Inkjet inks don't hold well when wet - so if it rains the day the invites are delivered, the address may be gone

c)Inkjets are sooo slow! Even the faster ones require a slow hand because of the ink issues.

d)Depending upon the thickness of the envelope, inkjet inks bleed through paper easily.

Re: Want to see my invites?

I just finished addressing all mine via my inkjet printer. So I can relay my experience.

I have a HP DJ 832C (so it is about 3 years old or so). The outer envelopes were no problem. Ink tried fast and no smearing or bleeding. Just praying to mail them in a dry spell so no chance the rain will smear them. I did over 150 with very few problems. I actually love the way they came out.

The inner envelopes were a problem. They are thicker then my outer envelopes because of the lining. Some came perfect but a few got this slight U shaped dent in the upper corner. It is hardly visible but it kind of upset me. I played with printer setting and doc settings but nothing made it better (I have to tellyou I am good with computers - it is my career.) I tried printing them on my office laser printers and because they are higher end printers, they actually started sealing the envelopes and melting the lining. I didn't have a lower end laser to test on. So I finally said screw it and dealt with the U shape. If people are bothered by it or even notice it they have too much time on their hands.

My tips: Take your time and don't rush. For both my outer and inner envelopes I printed them one at a time. (Didn't have to for my outers - but I played it safe). Also, when I let the paper try fall to three or less envelopes I had problems. Things worked best when the tray was nearly full (don't overfill either). I also gave the printer short breaks. I would run about 25 or so and then turn off the printer for 5 minutes. Again, playing it safe!

Good Luck to you.

Re: Want to see my invites?

Always order extra envelopes- that is one thing not to try to save a few $$ on. Practice before it is too late to make other arrangments. If you need your invites out in a week and your printer cannot do a good job, you will have trouble finding a calligrapher so quickly. Also, make sure you have enough ink or get more just in case. You don't want to start searching for an ink cartridge at 9pm so you can finish your stuff by the next day.

Re: Want to see my invites?

michele31 - I totally agree. I ordered 50 extra envelopes and think it is so worth it.

I'm so impressed- they look fabulous! I really like the idea of using color in the invitations.
