Was finding a photographer the WORST part for anyone else??? VENT
Original post by Vicky1706
I hate it...I have already seen 5 companies, I have a couple more lined up to meet with and it is so overwhelming There are so many packages and pros and cons about each place. All the pictures are starting to look the same!! DJ was easy, hall was no problem, church was fine...but this sucks! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

That was the easiest for me. I just read all the recommendations on this board, decided Duet looked good, went there and booked on the spot.
Don't get me started on the band and ceremony location, though. Saw literally about 100 bands before I found one (I'm picky because fi is a musician and I'm a former singer), and took until just a couple of days ago before I had a ceremony location!

Photographer was our easiest decision and only looked at the one we booked.

ACtually, for me teh DJ was worse- it is still ongoing. But I spoke with literally 44 photographers and met with about 15. I went with Twelfth Night Photography- whom I totally recommend. FM me for more info if you would like.

Yes, I agree, photography was rough, I must have seen at least 10 photography vendors and they are all so different in style, packages, pricing, etc. It is hard!! I saw everyone from Patken, Duet, Perceptions, North Island, DeJa Vu, Sherwood Triart, Renaissance, and some others that I can't even remember, but I finally chose Artisan photography and I'm soo happy with my choice. FM me if you need any help or suggestions.

I am having a hard time too with photographers I went today. I love Anthony from perceptions, however he is sooo expensive. He does not now do lower packages his packages start at 4195, plus we wanted some traditional pictures and we would have to add an additional package because Anthony only shoots in black and white and does not do any traditional poses so for the additional photographer it is 895. So 5,000 for photograher and he threw in engagment pictures Isn't this high? Then we went to PAtken, Since everyone here is using the. We meet with some lady who was not a photographer and she wanted use to book without us even meeting the photographer, so I said no way, as I was bout to leave she brought in a photographer who started showing us pictures, then I said is this your work and he said no Ill get my work. Why was he showing me someone elses work? Then When I saw his work I did not see any photojournalis pictures after he said that what he does. So we left Now Im back to square one. Also Patken only takes 300 max pictures that is not average, especially if he is a photojournalis it should be 500+. Who should I see Now?

Yes, I thought deciding on a photographer was one of the hardest parts! Pictures were extremly important to me, as it's the one thing I will have from the wedding for the rest of my life (besides FI of course!).
I only saw two, so I can imagine how complicated it gets when you see so many!
Did you not like anyone you saw? Or you can't decide between them?

Well, it makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one out there who is having or has had trouble with this. I think I have narrowed it down to 3...and I have 1 more appt next week. I like and don't like different things about all 3. Worse comes to worse I will take FH back to all 3 and let him help me decide in person (I told him the pros and cons about each one but I will let him see for himself in person). Thanks everyone for your help, advice and suggestions!

Hi Everyone !! I haven't started my search yet but I have my list ready. I received an advice from someone as I searched for catering halls and he told me, make sure that the photographer you get is someone you like, get along with, have some rapport etc because you will spend 10 hours of your day with this person around you. And I felt that this was a very sounded advice. I didn't book this place because it was too much $$$ for a Saturday night $130 before taxes and gratuities but this makes so much sense. I also got advice from a few of my friends that got married last year. Sometimes you got to these photographers that have lots of overhead costs. The more overhead costs that photographer has, the more your package or the prices of your pics will be. So don't despair and keep searching. You will find the right vendor. I think $5000 is too much money considering if you look around, you can probably find same quality of pictures and sometimes even more with another vendor that doesn't have so many overhead costs. And make sure you MEET the photographer that will be taking your pictures. Good Luck !!!

The photography was BY FAR the worst part of this whole planning business, you are NOT alone.
I actually had the OWNER of one 'highly respected' studio tell me not to worry about what my parents wanted because they'd be dead someday!!! (To make matters worse, this was AFTER I told him my Dad was in the Hospital!!!!!!!!)
I think I met with 6 studios in all, and we went with the one we were most comfortable with, that happened to be on our hall's recommended list.

I think I went to at least 10 before I found what I was looking for. You have to stay strong and true to what you want and can afford.

The photographer was the first thing I did and the easiest! I am having a hard time w/ the invitations and the cake design....For the photog I decided on Spellman in Deer Park. A bit pricey, but I am splurging on that and cutting corners elsewhere.

In all honesty, I broke down crying and left. There was a lot on my mind with my Dad's illness at the time, specifically that he was suffering from the same thing that killed HIS father a week before my parents were married. It was just too much.
BTW, they had the nerve to CALL ME the next day and ask me if I'd made a decision. At that time I informed them that I was going with someone else and that there was nothing they could do to change my mind.
That was a Scotto Recommended vendor, btw, and I'm going to tell Giovanna ALL ABOUT it once all this is behind me.

I knew who I wanted to book with Marcy Studio (a vendor here) but I wanted to say that I did not just book the first one I saw so we went to see two others before we booked with Chuck.

Girl, I am so sorry you had to go through that!!! If that was me I would have been in big trouble cause I probably would have tried to jump him.
If it makes you feel better I am not going through any Scotto related vendors! :
