Was this a rude comment from DJ?

Original post by JessMxPx88

I was on the phone with my DJ company yesterday to confirm everything and at the end of the conversation, he 'reminds' me that my 15% tip should be put in a seperate envelope from the balance when I go pay the DJ. He also reminds me that the 15% is off the TOTAL amount I paid them, not just 15% of the balance still remaining. Mind you, I looked over my contract and NO WHERE on the contract does it say i have to give them a 15% tip..it just says 'Gratuities are greatly appreciated' at the bottom.

ok, so 15% of what Im paying them is $225! Plus I am paying for both the DJ and the MCs meal!

Does anyone else think this was rude of him to say and just assume I am tipping and tipping them that much? How much should I be tipping, if at all??

yeah that was rude...I would totally give the tip based on the service you were given. I am sure he was just trying to get the most for himself!

I am so not looking forward to these tipping rules!
Good Luck!

I just don't understand how some of these vendors could be so rude! Tipping is optional and should not be demanded or expected by no means.

I am sorry your dj company has said this to you. How rude!

I am using a dj company also and came home the other day to a box delivered to me from my them and the card stated a 'thank you' from them for referring someone. They sent me a huge thing from Popcorn Factory which included white choc covered pretzels. I must say I was amazed.

I am so sorry your vendor was so rude to you.

Yes, that's very rude! Tips are not mandatory & should be given based on a job well done. Not to mention I think $225 is a very generous tip for the DJ. I've heard that most people ip $50-$100, and I plan to as well.

When we met with one limo company, the guy gave us a price quote & mentioned that was plus 20% gratuity. Ok that's standard. Then he threw in 'But of course, you should tip the driver a bit extra. I would say at least $50 would be appropriate.' I was stunned. I'm proud of myself because I turned to the guy & said 'I tip whatever amount I believe is appropriate based on the service I recieve.' I was totally turned off & needless to say, we went with a different company.

Totally rude. Tips are OPTIONAL.

If you want to give a 15% tip, you split that amount between the DJ and MC. They don't EACH get 15%.

Never tip anyone more than you can afford or more than they deserve -- and don't tip any individual (maitre'd excepted!) more than $150.

I think giving them each $100 would be more than generous.

I agree 100%!! And yes...comment was completely rude!

Oh No. If I were him, I would be completely embarassed. He should be ashamed of himself. Just for that, I wouldn't even tip him a penny. I know that's harsh, but this stress is the last thing you need.

That is a totally rude comment from the DJ. A tip is given after their performance. It's given according to how well they perform. They should not expect and or tell you that you have to give them a tip. That is totally rude of them.
