Wasp nets!!
I've got small honeycomb nests under my deck! How do I get rid of these? Can we do it ourselves or do I have to call in a professional? There are about 4 of them! UGH

Re: Wasp nets!!
I would call an exterminator. If they're under your deck (as opposed to on your roof, or in some inaccessible place) it shouldn't be too expensive to remove them. I would recommend someone but I'm not thrilled with the only exterminator I've used. good luck.

Re: Wasp nets!!
We had one or two last year and now we have another one. My husband usually just buys the spray and then sprays it when it gets dark out.

Re: Wasp nets!!
I'll ask him when he comes home. I bet he won't remember the name of it. You can pick it up in Sears Hardware or Home Depot.I didn't even know what the nest looked like until he pointed it out.It looks like a little ball.

Re: Wasp nets!!
Thanks. I can do the spraying but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to pull these nests down!

Re: Wasp nets!!
Ok, I asked my husband what he did. He bought some wasp or hornet killer at Sears Hardware. He said you should spray it on the nest when it starts to get dark out.He said if you spray it on there during the daytime, they will probably attack you but at night they are more off guard or something.(Maybe they are sleeping.
)Then after you spray it down, you can knock down the nest with a stick or something and then just step on it or hose it down after.
Good luck! You are brave.

Re: Wasp nets!!
I have a wasp problem too. I called an exterminator and he said that he could come back and put powder on the nest but it needed to not rain for a few days in order for it to be effective (which hasn't been possible). He said to be weary of some of the wasp killers out there because they can damage the wood finish on my deck (if your nests are out of sight than no worries).
He DID tell me that the wasps die when you spray them with ammonia and that I should wait until dusk, spray them with windex and watch. And it worked! They died, fell off and then I knocked off the nest with a stick.
Know that I am TERRIFIED of wasps and my heart pounded...but I am now wasp free!
...at least for today.
One more thing...He did also suggest that I hang bee-keepers outside. You put soda/sugar water in them...the bees/wasps come in for the sugar but the insides are built so that it interferes with their vision and they can't find their way out. Depot didn't have them so I bought them online at Improvements Catalog

Re: Wasp nets!!
I don't think I would have enough courage to go near them...Wasps are nasty...and they come after you and can sting over and over again...right?

Re: Wasp nets!!
I am deathly afraid of wasps, bees, hornets, you name it. You are really brave to take care of them yourself! If they were small I would spray them, but if they were huge than I would have a professional do it. I would rather have a nest of rattlesnakes in my yard than wasps! Good luck with that!

Re: Wasp nets!!
Thanks girls! I have a few of them so I hope when I spray the first one the others don't wake up!!I'll look in Sears for the stuff ... maybe I'll get my DH to spray windex at the same time
I wish I never saw them
I'm getting creeped out just thinking about it.
