Are all of those cake options included with the free cake? I'm not going to pay extra for a cake because it's mostly for pictures anyway. The cake might be delicious but a lot of people don't eat it so it's not as important to me.

Re: WATERMILL thread
Hi ladies...I got my letter to set the menu and choose linens! I think I am making it for next week. We're very excited. I'm confused about the cake, though. My menu (Prestige) and contract says I get a free bridal cake. The 'newest' upgrade package features photos of all the wedding cakes (same as on the WM website) with prices. Not sure what the 'free' cake is or if those cakes are upgrades. I guess I will find out.
Also, since I have my final flower appt. this weekend, I called to ask if there are flowers on the tables during CH. A BM named Jim assured me there are a bowl of roses. I am going to have this put in my contract!
That's it for now!

Re: WATERMILL thread
I was told that it is one floating rose in a small fishbowl. I think that is what is depicted in some of the pictures I've seen of the outdoor cocktail area.
As soon as you find out about the cake please let us know. I'm curious about this and really don't have it in the budget for an extra fee for the cake.

Re: WATERMILL thread
What were the prices for the cakes on the upgrade sheet? Is it a lot more $$?

Re: WATERMILL thread
well, the cheapest was a stacked cake for $200, then the Princess for $300--that's the one I like on the website. Others go up to $900. I just don't know which was the 'free' cake. Or, maybe because my contract says I get a free one I can pick one and the pricing is new? Who knows. I'll figure it out. The Princess and stacked are so plain, I'd hate to see the free one look REALLY cheap!

Re: WATERMILL thread
To be honest I only care about it for pictures. There hasn't been a wedding in my family for over 12 years. Back in the day wedding cakes were usually very dry. I'm sure this cake will taste great but most of my family probably won't even eat it because they are used to how they used to taste. I can't justify spending $900 on a cake for a 100 person wedding when only a fraction of people might eat it. UGH!
Maybe my photographer could superimpose one of those Sylvia Weinstock cakes that cost as much as a car into my photos Just kidding!! Can we smuggle in a cake from Costco?... again, just kidding.

lanabean,
Can you please post or FM me what happened at your menu selection meeting regarding the cakes? I feel the same way you do, I’m also afraid the “free” cake is going to be really cheap-looking given that the “upgrades” (which are supposed to be super) look rather plain.

When we booked, our BM showed us the books for the cakes and the ones that were included were very nice.

Re: WATERMILL thread
Lana- They are booked for Finals ( menu selections ) for a while..so call right away. I called last week and my appointment is not till the 16th of Feb. and she didnt even give me a choice, said it was the first they had ( but after 5:00 pm..so that may make a diff.)
The cakes in the upgrade book is upgraded cakes, there are 'free ' cakes as well to choose from, thats what My BM advised me.
Also the CH has floasting rose in a bowl as I was told.
And the chocolate fountain was changed to a $600 fee and $1 per person.

Re: WATERMILL thread
I am a little annoyed.
My mom had a question for our BM, Tom, and called the Watermill. He is the one who gave us the tour...sold us the place.....assured us he would 'take care of us'...
He's gone. Yup, he left the Watermill.
Now what? Do I request a BM in particular? He was supposed to be out maitre d, too.

I have Brian (at least I negotiated my contract with him and booked with him). I haven't contacted him yet since I booked. I have a running list of questions and will be calling him soon.

Tom, as in Tom Lauterborn? Noooo!! I wanted him to be my maitre'd. He's the one who gave us the tour and pricing. He was so cool and now he's gone???
