Watermill vs East Wind

Watermill vs East Wind

I am struggling between these two wedding halls, East Wind and Watermill, for a potential Decmeber wedding. I find both very classy, the prices are comparable as is the menu. I think pictures at either one will be beautiful. I wonder if the East Wind is too far especially because I will be getting married at a Church in Western Suffolk. On the other hand the Watermill has more than one event at a time. I liked the managers at both places and got a really good feeling from them. Any opinions?

Re: Watermill vs East Wind

I have experience with both...
I used to work at Watermill, my cousin had his wedding there as well... and my wedding was at East Wind Estate...

Both are AWESOME in their own ways-

Do you have specific questions about either one?

You can see my photos and review from East Wind Estate... I loved my wedding there!

I also think Watermill is a great place-

My ceremony was in Smithtown- and guests drove to East Wind- BUT it was summer-but we also had guests coming from CT (many friends and Dhs family) but most stayed at a hotel, so the travel time was not a big deal...

You may want to consider watermill because it will be closer for your guests to travel in the winter-
if you think many people will be sleeping at a hotel , then maybe that wont matter much-

I've never been to the Watermill but will be attending a wedding there this friday!
So far I am biased because I'm getting married at the East Wind. Technically though, the East Wind can have 4 weddings at one time (one at the Country Gardens, one at the Estate and 2 at the Inn).

We have been saying we wanted to have our wedding at East Wind since we began talking about getting married. We visited both and chose Watermill b/c East Wind was too far for since we are from Nassau and have guests coming from NJ, Brooklyn, upstate, NY.

The Watermill has 2 events at a time, but are on seperate floors. I havent heard of any brides runnig into one another- but, Im not sure.

All I hear when I say we are getting married at Watermill is OMG- they are awesome...good food, service- exc. So, for us- I think we made the right choice. Now that we are more into the planning, I really like Watermill for their in house planner who helps with invitations and favors, etc. I'm not sure if EW has that- they may. Sorry, I'm no help- b/c EW was our 2nd choice.

Both are gorgeous! Go with your gut! Do a search on here for reviews of both- they are soo helpful!

Good Luck!

i've been to several weddings at the Watermill and they were all fantastic.

We were originally booked there as well but decided it was too far from the Church.

LOOOOOVE the Watermill lol

I think that East Wind is worth the drive. You and your guest will not be disappointed.

Re: Watermill vs East Wind

I am getting married this December at East Wind- at the Estate. It was our top choice.

It being in Wading River was a problem for my father, but after looking at more halls, hearing all the rave reviews and visiting EW more himself, he is as happy as we are that we are having our reception there.

A major plus is that the Inn is right there, so if you have guests who don't want to drive home or just want to make a weekend out of it, they can stay right there on the property. Our ceremony is in Hauppauge, so it's a bit of a drive for our guests as well.

EW is so beautiful at Christmas time- it's the perfect holiday look (well in our minds it was!)

Best of luck- if you need any help with your December wedding plans, let me know!

I chose EW over the Watermill. My ceremony was in western Suffolk a full hour ride from EW. I didn't hear any complaints.

Re: Watermill vs East Wind

I've been to both. I was at the Watermill about 10 years ago and I was at East Wind in 2003.

I know I was at the Watermill along time ago, but I can tell you it's the only wedding that I actually remember what I ate. I had London Broil and it was PHENOMENAL. I also thought it was a gorgeous ballroom, and there were ice sculptures all over for the cocktail hour. The outside is also gorgeous when it's lit up with Christmas lights.

As far as the East Wind, I was at a late November/Early December wedding there. The reception was in the Estate Room. There was a Christmas tree in the front room, and Christmas decorations. It was really nice. The Viennese Hour was great - there was so much dessert.

I was really impressed with the Watermill. I know it was a long time ago, so maybe that makes my opinion less valuable, but I think I'd do it there.

Well, I've been a guest at the Watermill, and I had my own wedding there. Obviously, I'd pick the Watermill

I've also been to 2 weddings at East Wind (the Estate), one of them I was a BM. I loved it there - beautiful with great food.

It all really boils down to how do you feel when you walk into the place - DH and just knew when we walked into the Watermill that this was the place where we would get married

The people that want to be there will be there, even if they have to drive an extra half-hour.

no contest, East Winds IMO (and based on the fact that I used to work with the Scotto Brothers) blows Watermill out of the water.

Re: Watermill vs East Wind

One of the reasons I did not choose East Wind was the distance. My church is in Bay Shore and Riverhead is a little far since FH family is mostly from nassau. So I went with the Watermill and thus far I have nothing but great things to say about it.. I am not disappointed in my decision one bit. But whatever you choose it is going to be beautiful!

I've never been to weddings there, but I've eaten at events at both...I preferred the food at East Wind. Some people have told me the food can make or break a wedding, so just thought I'd put in my two cents on the food

Re: Watermill vs East Wind

I visited both the Watermill and Eastwind when we were looking at RH's. Watermill was very beautiful but there was something about East Wind that made me feel like it was 'the place'. The people there are beyond helpful. I also love the fact that the doors are always open at East Wind. I cant tell you how many times I went there just to see how something would look or set up my sample centerpiece. It is so convient for me.

Also when I was looking around at other vendors photographers, florists, etc.) so many of them mentioned how great the people are to work with there. And hearing that from a neutral party made me feel good.
