2 weeks ago I posted that we were going to take in my almost 5 yr old nephew because his mother who lives in Vegas is a mess and he needs a home....so we got him!!!!!!! He is 34 lbs and he isnt pottytrained. It is heartbreaking to look at this boy....he is sooo skinny and he didnt even know what corn was when I made dinner.We were driving my 8 yr old to school and he said he had a tummy ache so I told him that was a hunger pain and he said if he drank water Mommy says the pain goes away!!!I lost it right there. He didnt know how to go down a slide or what a park was.
DH says his nephew is staying indefinitely and he is NOT going back to Vegas. We dont have legal guardianship so I guess we will see what happens
I am pottytraining him and I am proud to say he only had one accident and also made a poo poo on the potty for the first time ever yesterday!!

sorry I meant to say that my DH does NOT want my nephew to go back to Vegas He is doing great he even gained 2 lbs already his mom never hugs or kisses(she isnt affecionate person) but I kiss my kids up all over and at first when I did this to my nephew he was uncomfortable but now if I kiss my girls first he screams MY TURN MY TURN!!!!!!!!!!! I have fallen in love with him already

We think she is addicted to pills and maybe cocaine but we're not positive...she had a bf who took care of my nephew but they broke up so she couldnt handle him anymore she just couldnt be bothered to cook him food or pottytrain him. or deal with him really ...she loves him but her addiction is more important it is sad really but he is loved here
the only thing I am afraid of is that he is eating now and if he goes home she might not feed him again and that breaks my heart to think that he will be hungry

I really commend you for what you are doing. This is really an amazing story and you are two wonderful people to take this poor little guy in. I wish you the best of luck with every thing. Proud of the little guy for doing great with the potty training. Keep us all posted!!

You guys are great for taking him in and giving him a loving home. It might be a major adjustment for him, but if you guys let him know you love him unconditionally you will do wonders for him.

Is there anyway you can report her? You should be documenting all of this and build a case against her if you want try to get legal custody. It's so upsetting to here how he was being treated. You are an angel for welcoming him into your home I wish you the best of luck.

I was just going to ask that. I hope you can legally get custody of him. One day she might decided she wants him back and that will really hurt him and you and your DH. If you can show she is an unfit mother, you may not have a hard time getting custody of him. Maybe you should speak to a lawyer here and they can help you get a lawyer in Vegas. I can't believe no one reported her to DSS in Vegas

I am so happy that your nephew is staying with you. It breaks my heart so much when I hear how some people treat children. It is truely special what you are doing for him. I pray that he is able to stay with you and begin to live a normal and healthy life. Hats off to you and your dh for being there for your nephew.

I think it's a great thing that you & your husband are doing. I'm sure your nephew is happier the he has ever been.
I hope you get full custody of him. No, child needs to go through that. And if his mom really loves him she would let him go or clean up her act.

What a wonderful gift you wil be able to give your nephew, a safe, loving home. With some love and guidance and a few good meals, he'll be on his way to bigger and better things.
