We want to try and book a hall in the next couple of weeks because of a few reasons 1. I work in the accounting field so I go into tax season officially at the end of Jan and have no life until April 15 2. Even tough we aren't planning on getting married until 06, we want to try and lock in a decent rate instead of waiting. Anyway, what I'm worried about (besides not knowing a thing about booking a hall) is the money. We will be paying for everything ourselves. We've been saving for a year now and are continuing to save, but I'm scared that maybe the amount that we have saved now (it's a pretty decent amount) may not cover down payments. Basically, what kind of money are they looking for when you book (price range)...I don't want to use it all up & then have nothing for everything else.I know this may sound stupid...I just stress easily and now that we have to start looking I'm worrying...on the finacial end.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
we put a thousand dollars to book the date and have to give him an additonal thousand every 2 months until we reach 5 thousand... then the rest is due a couple weeks before the wedding

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
for a hall the most someone wanted me to put down was about 1500 the least was 500. i saw 15 different places. all the payment plans were decent. Good luck

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
With our hall, they required a $500 deposit and monthly payments for 1 year until 1/2 of the minimum amount is paid. Then no more payments until just before the wedding.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
i had to give a thousand dollars deposit to book the date, then we pay $3000 every three months (X3). after we've paid a total of $10,000 that's it. the remaining balance is due around the time of the wedding.

Book a hall that has a low min, with a big room and can upgrade the package.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
I think we paid $2000- $1000 to hold the date & $1000 with the contract. The rest was all at the end.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
See I booked at the end of 2003 and I was able to send in small increments each month and it's really made a difference and I'm really less stressed. You can always try to do something like that. I've done it with all of my vendors.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
We had to give a thousand when we booked in March of 2003 also VERY EARLY and then two thousand in May and two thousand in June. I think booking your hall is a very good idea. You're booking for 2005 rates and you have your largest expense figured out, even if it's only a rough estimate.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
A lot of halls have payment plans so its not too bad laying out a lot of $$ at first

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
I paid 25% when I booked and signed the contract. I don't owe wnything else until 90 days before the date (at which time I owe 50%), and then the last 25% is due the day of.
They were flexible - I'm sure I could have paid less when I booked, but I just wanted to get a chunk of it out of the way.

Re: We have to book and I'm worried
I know we were asked to put $1000 dep. on the hall and that small payments would be worked out for the balance. I have the same worries you do since we are also paying for the whole thing ourselves and Im in school fulltime right now.
