We might not have an e-party

We might not have an e-party

I was talking to FI the other night about our e-party. Well, he feels that our yard is too small to have both our family and friends at the same time. So I thought that we would have the party in shifts. Have our family early and then our friends later. Now FI doesn't think that we even have enough space for family. He said that he doesn't care so much if our friends stand and mill about but he thinks that it's not right for our families. My sister suggested some inexpensive places on the Nautical Mile but FI really doesn't want to spend the $$. He said we'll do it if I really want to, but I know he's not thrilled. So, I am really disappointed that this may not happen. I am hoping to figure something out...

Maybe price out one or two inexpensive places. There may be some palces that will come out as cheap s having it at home (which can be expensive) plus you won't have to clean up. Maybe if you go and get an actual price, and then suggest to your Fh ways you can afford it, such as, tightening your personal budget or working a few extra hours, maybe he'll sign on. Plus tell him about all the gifts you'll get!

Hollie,

I am so sorry to hear that. Could you have it at a family member's house or a VFW or Knights of Columbus hall??? Good Luck

I was just going to suggest a relatives backyard! That would probably be the easiest!

Most of my family does not live in this country. And FI's family has not offered to help us, even though they are aware that we are having some issues with the party. My friend just offered to let us use her yard, which is bigger than ours. I have to talk to FI about this. Hopefully, he'll sign on to this idea. Keep your fingers crossed!

Dont be sad. My FI wasn't to thrilled about me having our e-party either. Its always a money thing with these guys. However, i got my way anyway. You will work it out. Have like a barbecue or something. And your friends can stand an mill around.

We are just going to have a backyard BBQ this summer.

My FILs and their family 'don't believe in' engagement parties and baby showers. No one in the family has them and they say it's just an attempt to get gifts. How ridiculous is that?!?

I want to CELEBRATE my ENGAGEMENT, and I'm gonna do it no matter what.

Thanks

They're not 'actively disagreeing' at this time, but it's been mentioned SEVERAL times in the past - purposely.

Hey Hollie..

sorry to hear about this. I am assuming that since your family doesn't live here that it would be mostly FI's family attending...maybe you could have it at your FIL's for the family and then have second one for your friends.

I hope it all works out!

Re: We might not have an e-party

We also had financial issues with our party- my parents are throwing it and they are pretty strapped with all the wedding stuff- plus FI's family lives down here, and mine upstate. We originally looked into having it at home but a restaurant ended up being cheaper. We are doing a Sunday lunch, which was the best price.

Good luck!

Re: We might not have an e-party

I really just want to celebrate a happy event with my family and friends. I didn't even mind splitting the party into shifts but FI just isn't happy with it. I know that ultimately, if I really want it, he will agree to it. But I want him to be happy too. I spoke to him about having it at my friend's house and he appeared reluctant. However we need to really sit down and talk about it. My family hasn't offered to help and neither has his. Honestly, I prefer it this way. I don't want anything held over my head! It was really nice of my friend to offer and maybe we could have it there.

thanks for your support ladies!

Hollie,

I hope it all works out. We are not having an engagement party by choice. We just want to save money for our wedding. But we will probably just have a Bar-Be-que in the summer to celebrate our upcoming wedding.
Keep us posted.

We didn't have an engagement part but my mom had a engagement dinner at our house (she used the good china and silverware) with a few family members and friends. It was really nice bc we had who we really wanted there.

I know this may come off wrong, but if you don't do a registry, chances are you may get a lot of cash which will help pay for the Eparty.

Good Luck on whatever you decide.

Re: We might not have an e-party

We rented the American Legion HAll for our eparty. It was only like $600 for the entire night. I think the whole party was less than $2K INCLUDING A DJ. We had about 80 people and had the best time. Added bonus: we also got great gifts and made back the money
