update: there still has not been any change...we woke up for a few seconds and acknowledged everyone in the room and then slipped back into a comatose state. Thank You all for the kind words and the emails/forum mails. They are very much appreciated.

Here is another update. They took him off the ventalator today for a little while but he was not doing so well so he is right back on. FH's sister told him he has to make a decision if he should come up now or when it is too late (we are scheduled to fly up on the 25th, which is just two and half weeks away) FH is having a very hard time making the decision. I try to keep myself upbeat about him and life but often times I feel guilty about making wedding plans and being happy. I will give you guys another update in a few days.

I think that feeling guilty is only natural...but please do your best not to! I'd be very unhappy if I was in a situation like your FBIL and found out happy events were taking a sad turn because of me. Your wedding plans may be a diversion that you all need. It's important to remember in the midst of pain, that there are also lives worth living and blessings yet to be realized.

Re: bumping up the trip-if it's at all possible, I'd say do it. You'll never regret coming up too early.

You, your FH and your families are in my prayers. I hope your next update is a good one.

I agree Debbie, keep you head up. Your wedding planning is probalby good medicine for FH also. Bumping up your trip may be a good idea then, especially is it will make a difference to FBIL. Having you guys around will probably be beneficial to him, knowing you are right there.

Debbie - I am just reading this thread, and am heartbroken for you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Try to be strong for FBIL and for FH, they need you now more than ever.

Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. Unfortunatly, at this time FH and I are preparing to take a trip up to Long Island on friday to say our final goodbyes and have the funeral on Tuesday. Saturday he will be taken off the respirator for good. We both appreciate the kind words and well wishes that everyone on this board has sent us these last few weeks. I don't know about you guys but this experience has put things in perspective regarding my wedding. It has reminded me that this day is in fact about our love and devotion to one another but also about the fact that we are joining our closest family and friends with us to share because of their importance to us. Giving in on the small things doesn't not seem quite as important anymore. Not having him as a groomsman on our wedding day is going to be hard but I know if he can he will be smiling on us and wishing us the best of luck with everyone else.

I don't even know what else to say to you. I just want you to know how sorry I really feel.

You are right though. A wedding is much more than place cards & flowers, it should be remembered by us all, its about marrying the one we love wether it was in Oheka Castle or City Hall, we are all lucky to have found someone who loves us, and who we can love back just as much, if not more.

It is also a time to celebrate with our friends and loved ones.
He will be with you and watching upon you & your family and smiling. Just think, you know have a guardian angel!

Debbie, my heart goes out to you, your FH and your FBIL. I don't even know what to say.
For now, I will say this, I pray and wish your FBIL all the peace that God has to offer him.
I pray he knows how much you all love him and will miss him. I pray for peace for the family and loved ones. I pray for FBIL's everlasting happiness, whether here on Earth or in the Heavens.

I pray God give you all strength and comfort these next few days and the year ahead with your wedding planning, and that when you all think about FBIL, you are not sad, but feel fortunate to have had him in your life.

You're probaly still on LI, but I wanted to check in and let you know I was thinking about you. After reading your last post, I'm glad you and your FH decided to go to LI this weekend, rather than the 25th. I made the same decision to fly down to LI sooner than later when they took my grandpa off the respirator back in Aug. I was so glad to be in the comfort of my family and friends. I hope and pray you have the same. Check in, if you feel up to it, when you return...

I wanted to give you guys an update and thank you all for your kind words and support. Believe it or not he last a month longer than anticipate. This thread started on 10/3 and he succumbed last night 11/9. I know that he is in a better place and away from pain now. He will deeply be missed in the wedding party and at the wedding though. I am now on a quest to find a tasteful and appropriate way to acknowledge him. Once again, thank you for your kind words, thoughts and prayer. I will not be on the board after tonight since we are coming to NY tomorrow for the funeral.
