Wedding Bands

My Fh and I went ring shopping and I think he got really scared at how much the rings were... I am trying to tell him that the prices we are seeing are what wedding rings.. with diamonds go for.
Can you ladies share with me how much you think is normal for a diamond wedding band....Thank you

Re: Wedding Bands

I pick mine up on Saturday (Yay ) but we just got confirmation on the price. Mine is a platinum eternity band, round stones, custom made, size 4 (makes a big difference in price for eternity bands). The total is $1800.

I would absolutely NOT pay retail (mine will probably appraise for closer to $3K) - go to the diamond district. If you need a contact, let me know, I'll send you my jeweler's information.

The band I was looking at was like a half eternity band with 2 rows of round diamonds instead of 1. It was white gold and each and 1.6 karats. THe price was $3000 ... how does that sound?

Re: Wedding Bands

those are big dimonds your talking about...
we did .75 dimond on both of our rings and we paid about 1100. retail is a lot more so try to find a contact and get a good deal. they made the rings for us and we pretty much got it at cost from what the owner was telling me

Re: Wedding Bands

My ring is an eternity band, white gold, size 5 3/4, approx 20 diamonds, G color, total carat weight, 1.8 carats, channel set (that's more gold and more diamonds), milgrain edging (didn't want high polished gold) and custom engraving on the sides. I am also getting two balls put into the inside of the ring to size it. When I get pregnant I'll take the balls out and still be able to wear my ring. This was an issue as we hope to have kids right away. The jeweler is a friend of my FFIL... $1500 but it will appraise for closer to 3K as he gave us a good discount.

Whatever you do avoid retail establishments. Eternity bands need to be made for you. Better you deal with the person who is making it. The stores in the mall and others charge a huge markup. We went to Tri-County, Diamond district and Elsa's before we settled on a jeweler.

When I went to a retailer (makes custom rings and is a vendor here) they said the closest they could do for me for the same style ring is 1 carat, HI quality diamonds for $1500. So I'm getting .8 carats more in with higher quality diamonds for the same price.

I would definitely avoid retail. Try Elegant Jewelry in the Atias Flea Market. He is a reputable jewler (he has a store in the city as well)!!! Great price and no tax.

I was looking at a simple platinum band, it's $525 at Fortunoffs, but with a discount as I registered there. We are trying to not spend too much on this.

I agree with all her questions. These are important to consider when buying a ring. Mine is custom made.
I think it also depends on the clarity of the diamond. To me, this is as important as the carats the diamond has. And if you are spending so much money on a wedding, why not spend on your ring, which is one of the symbols of your marriage and also something you will be wearing for a lifetime. We definitely make sure that for our rings and our honeymoon, we splurge. After spending so much money, why not spend for ourselves and enjoy that part of it as well.
