Wedding Cake Filling/Icing/Flavors?

all i know is that i really want lemon, raspberry and white chocoalte incorporated in it.

i am not a cake person, i'd much rather have a giant cherry pie with vanilla ice cream

Okay...I am so happy to see this thread. I'm not a very vocal LIWeddings lover, but the cake is a HUGE issue for FH and me. Before I go on, I must admit that FH is amazing, and lets me make every wedding decision and trusts my taste 100% on all other issues. FH is from NH (aka land of no bakeries and bland cakes). His mother actually bakes wedding and event cakes (the woman's license plate says CAKES). Anywho, they have never heard of a wedding cake that wasn’t white cake with white frosting!! His whole family, including FH, looked at me as if I was a Martian when I suggested a chocolate wedding cake. They have never even heard of a wedding cake with a flavored filling. I don’t think that they’ve figured out that I’m a die hard NY gal, and I come from a place with an Italian bakery and nail salon on every corner.

My question is…is this just an issue that I should give into and let FH pick the cake, or should I stick to my tasteful guns and get the cake that would make LI mouths water and just assume that they would realize how wonderful the LI way is after eating? Let me know what you ladies think.

Hmm, thats a hard one...

Could you possibly have a 'brides cake'? lmao... have him pick the actual wedding cake and you can have a smaller cake for just the two of you to 'surprise' him with on the table?

I am getting a red velvet cake regardless of whether or not my guests will like it. I don't like cake in general, so I'd like to get one that I know I'll actually eat.

or dark choc. cake with oudding and strawberry filling...Mmmm this does not coincide iwth my diet LOL

FH wants an Entenmann's Chocolate Chip Filled Crumb Cake - it's his fav cake!!!! He's hilarious!

girl, red velvet is my fav...hence my screen name. i don't think my RH has that option. i don't know if i can seriously pay anyone but cake man raven for a whole red velvet cake though.
