Wedding Cakes

Re: Wedding Cakes

I don't know how reception hall cakes generally are, but I was at a Crest Hollow wedding this past weekend and everyone at the table agreed that the cake was the worst they had ever had. So if that is your RH. I would definitely tell you to throw in a lil extra money and get a good cake.

There is no way I will pay more. I am going to find out what bakery Sand Castle uses & see if I can pick something directly from them. I was not very excited over there pictures.

We didn't use one of the 'reception cakes', but our rh used Dortoni's, so u better believed we stayed with that bakery! lol. Since we wanted a different design, our rh said they'd cover up to a certain cost, and then anything over we'd take care of.. LOVED our cake YUM!!!! Honestly one of the best cakes i've had in my entire life, and the guests were RAVING(and that's a big deal considering we had a whole viennese hour!). We new the matre d at our RH, so they might have took extra special care of us too...but OMG that cake..i always think about it & i still have yet to taste one just as good!

i am definitely going with the RH cake. They do beautiful work, and quite honestly i don't even care what it tastes like at this point. lol. I'm sure it's good, but bakery cakes aren't all that either. I've been to plenty of weddings and have never really been impressed with the cakes. I think it's really just meant to look pretty (considering that there's usually extra dessert served WITH it). The only good ones out there seem to be home made and there's no way i'm BAKING a cake for 100+ people

Same here. We wanted a different style than JT offered but we most definetly stayed with DOrtonis and our cake was amazing.

I went to an outside vendor ended up paying more, but it was gorgeous. I had so many compliments on how the cake tasted.

Re: Wedding Cakes

I went with an outside vendor, although JT includes the cake. I know they use dortoni's which ive only heard AMAZING things about, and had recently for a friends bday and it was DELICIOUS. OUr decision was nothing against dortoni's, but the design i wanted was not a typical design and the shape is very different and so were all the designs on each tier. I looked up past cakes of dortoni's and their site but didnt see anything similar so bc of that i didnt want to take a chance. So we went with somebody who has done the same style cake and does a great job at it too. Ive seen this type of cake trying to be executed by others and it can come out a bit messed up.

I used cakes by Jay and LOOOOOOOOOVED our cake, it was one of my favorite things at our wedding hahaha. It was exactly what i wanted, and he sat down with us for over an hour designing each tier with us on paper and asking us how we want it. We did 2 flavors, yellow cake with baileys cream, and sourdough cake with chocolate truffles and raspberries and especially the sourdough one was the best tasting cake ive ever had. I wish i would've taken the cake home ive been craving that cake since the wedding. FOr the top tier we took home and froze we did carrot cake.

We're going with the cake FH includes with the package. I have heard mixed reviews about their cakes, but they also offer an additional dessert for each person (we are thinking of going with waffles and ice cream).

So are we. I don't want to spend the extra money on another cake that people may not even eat, plus there are going to be other desserts they can choose from (the extra dessert and the trays on the table)
