Wedding Cakes...Are You Buying Yours or Letting Your Hall Hook One Up For You?
Original post by radiostar
Don't most reception halls include a wedding cake in your package?
Are you buying a cake elsewhere? If so, are they outrageously expensive?

We are using the hall's cake. No need to spend extra money on something when it was included and we hope people will be so busy dancing anyways... they won't even miss the cake!

I am buying one at another location since they are willing to give me Viennese platters instead of the cake and I have a special design in mind that they were not able to do.

Our hall has a bakery they work with so we just have to let them know the look and flavor we want and they do it for us.

We have one included, but I don't know if the bakery that they use (Audrey's) can re-create the cake I want (I've sent them a couple of emails and they have yet to respond), so we're thinking about going with another baker who said she can do it.

I'M GETTING MARRIED AT FLOWERFIELDS, AND THEY PROVIDE THE CAKE, THE FLORIST HAS TO COME AND DECORATE IT OR U CAN JUST PIC A HOUSE CAKE THAT COMES DECORATED, YOUR CHOICE... MOST RECEPTION PLACES PROVIDE THE CAKE.

I'm using my reception site's cake under duress! They're giving me NO choice they don't allow outside food vendors!! I would've loved to have the opportunity to at least shop around & then decide no I won't spend the $ but alas . . .
But I have met w/their baker & they can design it the way I want, so its all good! So far I've heard nothing negative about my site so just praying the cake will taste good too.

we used the one from the catering hall. it was included in the price and we would not have gotten a credit if we brought one in.
edited to say, that if you are not happy with the basic cake provided, you could ask to meet with the baker and work something out as far as an upgrade. that would have to be less expensive then getting a cake someplace else.

Groovypeg - I'm actually a Queens bride looking for possible vendors on L.I. - my reception is at Antun's in Queens Village.
