We started at 40K. This is what our parents contributed, and all we wanted to spend. But then came the e-party, rehearsal dinner, invitations, stamps, and my dress (which I wanted to pay for myself so no one could tell me I was spending too much, which I knew I would, since everything I liked was designer). I think in total, we'll spend about $45-50k. Honestly, if I had to do it all over again, I'd do everything the same way. While I think budgeting is important, I also think that you shouldn't cut things out you may regret later on. I've also been doing as much DIY stuff as I could when it came to things that weren't necessarily 'must haves'. That can save a bundle.

Re: Wedding cost
i 100% feel you can stick to a budget that's reasonable for you.
it all depends on what you choose in terms of packages and upgrades.
there truly is a list of things you need vs want. you just have to prioritize and then shop around.

Does shopping around get time consuming and how do you remember all of the things they have shared?

As of right now, we are at around 51,000. Insane to even write that number.

Re: Wedding cost
Shopping around is time consuming, but I did most of it by email. That way everything I was quoted/offered was written down. It is definitely possible to stay on budget. You just have to figure out what stuff is most important and not negotiable for you as a couple and work from there.

I made a special email just for the wedding, and then I had folders for each kind of vendor. I would only email people or call them and ask them to send me emails with quotes, and then decided on which to meet with from there. It is time consuming, but if you want the best price/value/quality, you need to look at what is being offered.

Our budget was 20k and we ended up going slightly over, but still stayed under 25k. We paid for the entire wedding ourselves and had 155 guests.

I think we'll be around 30k and that's for about 130. We've done a lot of negotiating! Haha
We are doing the same. Our budget is $30k for approximately 155 invited. I have done a lot of negotiating with the vendors and hoping we can stay as close to $30k as possible.

Our goal was so stay under 50K since we're paying for it ourselves but it's really hard. NY (specifically LI) is SO expensive. We will probably clock in between 48K-53K
Ditto on all of this.

Original budget was 25 but I think we will be going over by a few thousand, nothing horrendous. That'd not including honeymoon, which we will be taking a few months later

Our budget was about 25K all on us and we are just about there. My mom has helped out with things like (my dress, etc.) and anything helps in the end! thanks to even those smaller contributions it makes it easier on FH and I. we are around 150 guests but expecting about 120
