Re: Wedding Date
I live up the block of a Church, and there was a wedding on the 23rd, and the first think I said was it's a hard time of the year for a wedding. Everyone is trying to finish up X-Mas shopping, plan a menu for X-Mas Eve or X-Mas day.

Re: Wedding Date
No matter what date you pick, someone will have something to say about it.
personally, I wouldn't pick it because we have SO many OOT guests and traveling is a nightmare that time of year. Also, many people find finances tight this time of year, too, and going to a wedding (especially out of town) might be a financial burden for some.
It is more expensive for OOT guests to travel over the holidays (and busier and less pleasant as well) and that some people may have to choose between being closer to their family or going to your wedding around Christmas... Also, it's a tight time of year financially for many people -- and some people for many reasons may not want to travel that close to the holiday...
However, some people won't come no matter what day you choose and the people who really want to be there will be there no matter what, even if it's Christmas day at 2AM in Alaska.

Re: Wedding Date
FH's family lives across the country, and I go away for Christmas every year. And we fly out sometime between the 22nd and 24th each year. Not that I'm invited to your wedding () but there must be people like me who you want to invite, people who have to go out of town around that time. Plus, that's the time of year that people feel most financially strapped, and I don't think you want anyone to see your wedding as a burden rather than a pleasure.
Of course... to echo what other people have said - there is no perfect date, and at least one person will find conflict with any date you pick, so it really is up to you.

I think that those who love you will be there no matter what date you pick, and it is true that no matter what date you pick, there will always be someone who has something to say about it.

I agree 100%
Now, to the nitty gritty...are a lot of your guests OOT? If you are concerned that people wouldn't want to travel,..def. take that into consideration...

Re: Wedding Date
Hmmm it depends, there will be guests who will find it an inconvenience, just being honest. Others wont mind. Yes it is true that no matter what date you pick it will inconvenience somebody. Problem is with the day before christmas eve it will probably end up inconveniencing more people. Its hard bc I know alot of people who have a christmas tradition to go away, many people travel to be with family members. Don't know if you will have any people who are away at college and only gets to see their family during their breaks, or for example alot of people at my job live in another state and moved here recently after college. Like the example before, they too dont get to see their family often only when they have a few days off.
Also like others have stated, it's also a tough time for people financially, especially if you have any oot guests.
Also, when are you planning on having the wedding, you prob wrote it but i forgot right now, ill see after i post this. But if its 07 it will be on a sunday so not that bad, but 08 its a monday. You know your guests best though and figure out i guess if this would bother them or not.

Re: Wedding Date
If it's next year, it would be the Sunday before Christmas, I think it's cutting it a little close. A lot of people next year will have off Monday and Tuesday so they may travel during that time frame.
It's up to you though, like all of the posters above said, no date is perfect for everyone and those who you really want to be there will be!

Re: Wedding Date
It depends on the size of the wedding. If it's going to be just close friends and family then they are probably going to be people you'd be spending time with during the holidays already. If you having a large reception with a lot of OOTs who may have standing plans and traditions for the holidays then I think it may be too close to Christmas.

Re: Wedding Date
I'm getting married on Mother's Day and I've had people tell me that that was going to affect the turnout at my wedding. I think it depends on your crowd-----does your family celebrate X-Mas? If so, I'd probably steer clear of this time of year. People have alot going on, and if you can avoid it, you may as well. My family is Jewish and my parents got married 34 years ago yesterday.....X-Mas Eve! It all depends on YOUR crowd.

Re: Wedding Date
People will have enough time to plan their schedules before, but personally, I wouldn't do it.

Re: Wedding Date
I am having my wedding 4 days after Christmas and while everyone has their opinions, I couldn't be more happier that my day is so close to the holiday. I sent out STDs with my Christmas cards this year so that gives people who want to be there to make arrangements to be there. For those who have plans on that weekend, they can change them or they just don't come- it's their decision. The ones who you love and love you will make it a point to be there.
Good luck!!
oh and P.S. I would LOVE to have another December 07er close to my day...we can be freaking out together!

Re: Wedding Date
My friend's wedding is this Friday and I am so broke from Christmas. Attending isn't a problem but it'll be somewhat of a financial hardship.

Re: Wedding Date
It is close to christmas, and it may be hard for people who are traveling to get to your wedding, but it's YOUR wedding. Those who you really want there will be there.
