Wedding Day Photos

Okay so I am trying to convince my future mother in law that a new trend is that people take photos with the groom before the wedding ceremony. She does not believe me and is adamant that no one ever does that. I don't want to be taking pictures during my party so I want them to be done earlier in the day. Has anyone here done that before/ is doing that/ knows someone who has done that?

Yes... I saw a TON of girls do this on this site and they came OUT amazing!! Some people just like to keep the old tradation... such as we are. FH refuses to see or know anything about anything I'm wearing that day...till he sees me walk down the ailse... just our thing. Do what makes YOU happy!

She's paying so I'm really gonna have to convince her on this one. :(

MANY girls take pics before the ceremony when their ceremony is taking place at the RH and the reception starts right after. So bc of the fact that there really isn't any time in between, it makes a whole lot more sense to take your pics beforehand.

My ceremony was in queens at 2:30pm and reception started at 7:30pm in long island. It made alot more sense for me to take pics after the ceremony bc we didnt have to rush to finish pics before the ceremony plus since we had a large gap in between we needed to have something to do so worked out best

i say determine what you will do only by the simple fact if you are having the reception right after ceremony or if you have a gap in between. Not because your FMIL says so

FH and I are taking photos beforehand! We want to enjoy the CH. Our photographer and videographer are going to set up a special reveal moment and capture it on camera and video so seeing each other beforehand for the first time will still be special.

i took all my pics before the ceremony. I wanted to be at my CH and reception; I took very few up in the bridal suite right after the ceremony; the majority were before.

we're taking ours before...FH at first was against it but i made him see all the pros. we're still going to have a private 'reveal' so we can get that reaction but it made sense for us being picture people to give us more time to take pictures and not feel rushed plus we want to attend our entire CH

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and we took the pics before the ceremony so that everyone could enjoy the cocktail hour.

It just makes sense. You spend all that money at a place and you miss almost an hour of food, drink, and people for pics that could have been taken already....
If you don't have an issue with him seeing you before the ceremony you should do it.

I'm taking pictures before the ceremony. We are getting married at the reception hall so after the ceremony we go right into cocktail hour so there is no time for photos.

i will be taking pics before the ceremony. I don't really have a say in the matter because I am getting married in the evening in winter. If I wait until after the ceremony, i will only have pics in the dark! Also, because my ceremony is at the reception hall, one hour to take pics would not have been enough.

I'm taking pics before. I've been in about 10 bridal parties. All but one took photos before. The one that didn't was so stressful. Not only did they miss their entire cocktail hour, the bridal party was all worried about their guests/dates by themselves during the cocktial hour not really knowing anyone, etc.

It seems like you loose too much of your party just for an old tradition. Most photographers will set up the speacial reveal and catch the shot on camera. Till has the same element but just before ceremony not during.

Also most reherarsals for the ceremony take place 1/2 hour before ceremony if you are getting married at RH and you will see each other then as well.

We are taking pics before. Getting at the RH and want to enjoy our party. We'll do family photos and a few shots of us, but the majority of the pics we are taking at a local arboretum prior to the wedding. FH didn't want to do it at first, has been VERY traditional during this wedding planning, but after speaking with our photographer and getting her opinion, he agreed with both of us that doing it before is best.

Why don't you speak with your photographer? If he/she agrees with the before wedding pics, maybe he/she can speak with your FMIL. Good luck!

I went to a wedding Friday and the bride and groom took all their photos before the ceremony. They started at 1pm for a 6pm ceremony.

that depends what time your ceremony is. WE took pics for a little over 2 hours after the ceremony and got to the RH 30 mins before CH even began, we all sat and relaxed in the bridal suite for that half hour before anybody showed up. If you have a big gap, you have time for pics and doesnt mean youll miss ch

my FH's sis took the pics before...they had a private moment with the photog. in the bridal sweet to capture their first views which came out soo cute.....then we all took pics before the ceremony which was at her RH so she said all of her hellos and thank-yous before the reception

If you are getting married on site, you should definitely do your pics beforehand. I had a day wedding so it was an early day...but totally worth it. We did do some family pictures after the ceremony and had an extended cocktail hour.....we still missed alot of it...but wasnt that worried. I'd say get everyone on board and try to do all the family pics beforehand too!

Also - I was skeptical about this too, however I did a poll on LIW and it turns out that more than 75% of brides getting married on site were seeing their FH before the ceremony to do pictures!
