Wedding day Throw... What to do?!?!?!
So I called my church and the receptionist told me that rice can't be thrown. She really didn't give me a reason as to why. If its for the birds, I know I've seen rice that is safe for birds to eat. I always wanted rice to be thrown for our wedding. I then asked her about bird seeds and she said no as she would have to personally clean it up. I think the same excuse went for the rice. I'm thinking of just bypassing her and asking the priest as I want a traditional wedding.
My friend just said to forget what the receptionist said and make the rice bags anyway. If I did that, I would give her a personal tip for the clean up. What do you ladies think, should I make believe I 'forgot' or actually do something else? What are you ladies using?

Re: Wedding day Throw... What to do?!?!?!
it is for liability purposes.. someone could slip on the rice and the church could get sued. the same thing goes for flowers, which many churches (including mine) also don't allow to be thrown.i would not do them if the church said no.. if god forbid something happens, you don't want to get in trouble. we are planning on having bubbles as we leave the church.

Re: Wedding day Throw... What to do?!?!?!
I never really thought of the liability issue...
I feel stupid now. I just looked up alternatives and found biodegradable confetti, which melts in water or plantable seed confetti, which grows wildflower. I googled pictures of guests throwing it at a couple and it looks like rice being thrown.

Not only will it be thrown in your face, but some will get in your hair and down your dress.

My hair will be loose in big curls so I could easy shake it out but my dress... I'll be dropping rice down my dress all day long.

LOL.... I just found special heart shaped rice that is real rice but are flat so if stepped on, people don't slip. It melts in water and gets crushed when stepped on. Would they allow that? Am I shooting for the stars with this idea?
If you haven't noticed I don't give up that easily. Never say never.

if the only reason they don't allow it is bc of liability, its worth a try! maybe they will allow it - you never know. good luck!

You should probably talk to your priest and see what he says. I remember my cousin having white heart shaped things that dissolved when wet, but someone who worked at the church was angrily sweeping them up while we lingered outside the church afterwards. I wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers at my church, so maybe see what he says. If it's a 'no' there are plenty of alternatives like bubbles or the ribbon wands like others have said.

I know that with my church you can't throw anything. Not only is it a liability, but it also has to do with clean-up. I know with our ceremony, there is a mass about 30 minutes later, so it wouldn't really be fair to have stuff all over the place outside and expect people to clean it up right before mass.

My church does not allow anything to be throw due to insurance/liability purpose's. The receptionist should have explained the reason to you. I would double check with the priest.

We have been told the same thing: nothing thrown at all. We are not dong anything they ask us not to do. Why would we anger the church that just married us?!?!
