Re: Wedding Dress
I haven't bought my dress yet but if you can afford it then what does it matter.... its your day you need to be happy with it :) Don't worry about what other people think. I am looking between $1000-$1500 for my dress... A $5K dress would be way out of my range... LOL! but if I could afford a $5K dress.... then why not.

Re: Wedding Dress
it depends on how much of your budget that it is taking up... or if you save in some areas and spurlge in others...
for me, 5k would be entirely too much... i dont even want to spend 1k

Re: Wedding Dress
i spent $700 on mine....but it just depends on what your priorities are. I never spend lots of money on clothes and I'm not into fashion, so it wasn't a big deal for me to get a fancy wedding dress. but it all depends on you--do whatever feels right for you.

Re: Wedding Dress
I think there is nothing wrong with splurging on the gown, more than anything it will be what you look forward to wearing, and how you remember yourself. That being said, I spent 900, but I am told I will have to pay 500 or more for alterations. If I had the wedding of my dreams, I would have gone for Reem Acra. I saved a picture from the 90's and I still love it today, the white ball gown with bell sleeves and black trim. sigh To be honest, the really expensive gowns run so small.

Re: Wedding Dress
If you have the money, then why not, especially if you are planning to preserve your gown as a heirloom.
my dress was only about $840 but after tax, shipping and alterations...about $1200

Re: Wedding Dress
I wound up saving alot on my dress b/c my salon was full of idiots-but besides that, for me 5k is way too much money for 1 day, but if you can afford that then why not.

Re: Wedding Dress
for me, 5k would be too much. My dress was around $1k. I would have liked to have for it to have been less, but I loved my dress. My mom also bought it for me, so I was trying to keep the cost as low as possible, but she loved the dress as much as I did so it was a done deal. We just shopped around till we got the best price.

Re: Wedding Dress
If you can afford it, then go for it. I really lucked out because they were discontinuing my dress in ivory, so I was able to get the dress, shoes & veil for a little over $600.

Re: Wedding Dress
I'm hoping I can find a dress I love for under 1,000. A dress is important to me, but not the MOST important thing.

Re: Wedding Dress
I spent a little over $800 for my gown so I don't know if I would be a good judge, If you can afford it and it is worth it to you then it doesn't matter what other people think. If you're happy go for it

Re: Wedding Dress
Its all about where your priorities lie. If 5k dress is important to you, and you LOVE it and there is no other, then go for it! Mine was 660! (YAY!) and it was my favorite! (Bonus!)

My dress was $6100. But my parents paid for it. If I was paying I wouldn't have spent that much money.

Re: Wedding Dress
I agree with all the ladies here. If you can afford it, and really love it, then why not! I personally didn't go to Kleinfelds because I looove Amalia Carrarra dresses, and I knew I couldn't spend 4-6K on a dress! I didn't want to go and fall in love with a dress I couldn't afford. I gave myself a 2K cap, and lucky for me, fell in love with a $900 dress (not including alterations). There really is no right or wrong!
