Wedding Dress Alterations

Wedding Dress Alterations

I need everyone's honest opinions here!!!

I bought my wedding gown from David's Bridal and my bridesmaid dresses at Helen's Boutique in Commack.

In about 2 months, I have to call and set up my appointment for my first fitting and I have heard many mixed review of David's Bridal's alterations department. I tried on my dress the other week when my mother was in town and she felt the dress would need to be hemmed about 2 inches up, the straps and neck line would need to be squared out better, and that was about it.

For those brides who went to David's Bridal for any dress alterations - how much did they cost and how did they come out?

For brides who went elsewhere - why did you? where did you go? how much did it cost you?

If you don't feel comfortable posting, please FM me!!!!

I ordered my dress from david's bridal too. I just got the call that it came in!!! I heard mixed reviews about David's too. I think I am going to go to a family friend who is a seamstress for alterations. I don't wanna take any chances.

My Aunt ordered her dress from David's and had her alterations there and it was AWFUL! They charged her twice what they should have, the customer service was disgusting AND she still had to have the dress re-altered. She did a hem to hollow and the bottom half of teh dress did not line up with the top half! Thankfully, her MIL is a seamstress and she flew in from out of state early to re-alter the dress. The poor woman was up two nights before the wedding trying toc orrect the dress. In the end, it worked out ok, but David's was a nightmare!

Just as a FYI, I am using Phyllis from Gownfind to alter my dress. HTH

My SIL got her dress from Davids - she loved the dress, and it was a great price, but she was VERY unhappy with the alterations and service after purchase. She recommended to me that if I got my dress at David's, take it to a different seamstress/tailor for alterations.

My cousin got her dress at David's bridal and the alterations were terrible. She ended up having to take it elsewhere to get fixed.

Oh no! My BM's got their dresses from David's and we have an appt to go there next month for their fittings. After reading this, I think we should go elsewhere. Where did everyone else go? Can anyone suggest a good seamstress in Nassau (preferable Westbury/East Meadow area)?
