My mom is paying i tend go find deals i like things that happen to be inexpensive.. So mom is thinking i will get the cheapest dress i find. But i still want my dream dress.. If I have to buy my dress in the $99 rack I will. FH and I are on a REALLY tight budget. I can't see spending so much money on a dress that I will NEVER wear again. Althoiugh, I do have a plan for my dress after the wedding. I will be ripping it apart and making album covers for our, and both of our parent's photo albums. I will prob also make a christening gown for our first born.

Thats a really sweet idea, especially for the christening gown. I've always wanted to go to davids bridal when they have the 99 dollar sale

Honestly- if you want to cut costs, DONT think a particular designer!! Jsut go to a local place or look on gownfind.com

My problem was that I didnt look at prices before I tried dresses on and of course I feel in love with one that was outside of my budget and my mom offered to pay for the rest

That's not selfish...I always thought I would be the same way about my wedding-'it only happens once'- but My FH and I are getting married in April of 08, and are moving to PA to buy a house in the Summer of 08. SO needless to say, the more I spend on the wedding, the less I will have for a house. I had to weigh my priorities. I would love to spend what I want on our wedding and take my time after to save for a house, but My Parents are letting us live in their house now rent free so we can save money, and they are putting the house on the market in Spring of 08. SO basically, my choices are limited.

i completely understand.. I'll be making a lot of things for the wedding to save money because FH and I want to be able to afford a house or a condo too. Luckily, dad will be selling the house shortly after i get married.. so he'll be giving me money!!

Re: Wedding Dress Costs

My mom gave me a budget of $3K and i could choose how i wanted to spend it on my dress. . . i could have gotten a dress for that much but instead I got a dress for LESS than half that so now she paid for my veil tiara and any underthings that i may need ( the crinoline, slip etc)

the first dress i loved was $6K and i ripped that bad boy off in a heart beat bc i saw the look in my mother's eyes and i know she would have bought it for me anyway so i pretended i hated it lol

luckily i found a dress that I think is better and more age appropriate

good luck!!

eta; i am a dope it was a little more than half lol - bad math skills.

I'm hoping to spend no more than 1K because I don't think we have budget for it - but I think I'll go around and try on and see what I like best and then go to see Phylis...

How early are you ' supposed' to buy it anyway - I think i want to start looking before I move and hopefully get it and leave it here with my parents - I can't imagine having to travel with it (NC--->NY)

Re: Wedding Dress Costs

i got mine at a sample sale for 800$ before alterations, but it was originally an 8,000$ dress. and it is like new! i dont know if the place you got the gift certificate to does sample sales, but its a great way to save money if there is a particular designer you like.
good luck!

Re: Wedding Dress Costs

I refuse to spend more then $1,000 for a wedding dress. I plan on spending $500 if not less. I am going to a consignment shop in a richie town and taking a look there first then moving on to stores. My mother THANK GOD is paying for the dress as my gift but i do not want to just buy a expensive dress since she is paying for it.

I do plan to save it for christening gowns for future children since that is what my sister in law did to her wedding dress.
