I haven't started to look yet, but since i got the 200 off from Bridal Elegance., i was wondering what the average cost of a wedding dress is. My mom is paying i tend go find deals i like things that happen to be inexpensive.. So mom is thinking i will get the cheapest dress i find. But i still want my dream dress.. So i was just wondering what most of you have or plan on spending for you dresses

Mary you were right that bridal elegance is phyllis.. i was soo excited.. but my wedding a month after yours. i plan to start looking for dresses the end of the summer and hopefully buy one around then or early fall. I think it would be safe to buy one right before you moved
Awesome!! You have to let me know how it goes when you go shopping! Yeah that's what I was thinking - probably august I guess would be a good time / maybe July - I just know that after I leave - it's going to be difficult to come up often ($$) and I'm going to have to maximize the entire weekend I'm there - so the more I get done now the better off I'll be!!!
Are there places you can store the dress? I've heard some girls say wrap it in a sheet.....?

i saw a thread where brides were getting different responses from stores on how to store it.. hanging up.. lay down flat.. I guess when you buy your dress ask the store.

Re: Wedding Dress Costs
i know its crazy to spend over $1k for a dress but when you put the one on that you know is the one..it almost doesnt matter..
if theres anything ive learned its dont settle..its your ay to look beautiful
and also a way to cut costs down by about $1,000
SEE IF ANYONE DOES RENTALS
my friend found the perfect dress but it was $4,000 and the lady rented it to her for $300 and she altered it and everything
this wasnt in NY but see if snyone does that

Re: Wedding Dress Costs
I dunno about this one... I go back and forth.
I have a sinking suspicion that after my wedding, if I've spent more than 1K on my dress, I'm going to look back and say 'Why the heck did I spend so much on something I'll only wear once...?' I'd rather put it towards our HM.
But at the same time, I really wanna find something that I love and I want to look great....who knows...

Re: Wedding Dress Costs
honestly i was always one of those ' i would never spend more than $1k on a stupid dress' kind of girls
but unfortunately ( or fortunately) my mother is a seamstress and she can point out faults in a dress from a mile away and she thinks fabric is VERY important so that is where we had a lot of trouble - any dress my mom thought was acceptable cost over $5K - she is still not thrilled with the quality of the dress that i chose but i had to explain to her that no one is going to be examining the dress the way she or i would!
it did make me sad when i went dress shopping in italy - even the $500 dresses were of excellent quality and very well made - but it would have cost too much to ship it so it didnt make sense.

Re: Wedding Dress Costs
i plan on spending between 500 and 1k.... i already found a dress that i love and it was 600... im going looking again on friday and then i feel i will make my decision. my parents have expressed that they would like to buy my dress and everyone in my family is on a budget for this wedding so i refuse to ask them to spend 2k on a dress when i know that money could be put to use on something more important.
Everyone has different priorities. Do whats important to you! Good luck its so much fun!

If I have to buy my dress in the $99 rack I will. FH and I are on a REALLY tight budget. I can't see spending so much money on a dress that I will NEVER wear again. Althoiugh, I do have a plan for my dress after the wedding. I will be ripping it apart and making album covers for our, and both of our parent's photo albums. I will prob also make a christening gown for our first born.
So cute, I'm selfish , and chose a gown, that I can & will wear again
That's not selfish...I always thought I would be the same way about my wedding-'it only happens once'- but My FH and I are getting married in April of 08, and are moving to PA to buy a house in the Summer of 08. SO needless to say, the more I spend on the wedding, the less I will have for a house. I had to weigh my priorities. I would love to spend what I want on our wedding and take my time after to save for a house, but My Parents are letting us live in their house now rent free so we can save money, and they are putting the house on the market in Spring of 08. SO basically, my choices are limited.
I see that you think your choices are limited but your very lucky, wish we didn't have to pay rent (we're in a complex).
We hope to buy a house in March of 2008 (hence waiting forever for the wedding)... I definitly understand $$ & cutting cost. I plan on a ton of DIYers! Good luck!
BTW: Where in PA? MY grandparents live there & my parents plan on moving there after my dad retires in a few years

Somewhere outside the poconos. I also have friends that live in Colver. Were still looking in all the areas though.
