My mom said she wants me to purchase at least 30 extra wedding favors for her family and friends who are not invited to the wedding.
For the size family I have, I am having a small wedding. We purposely booked a room with a max capacity of 140 so we could get out of having to invite 4th cousins twice removed.
So, my mom said that since some of her family may send gifts (some already gave us an engagement present), that I should send them a wedding favor when I make-out my thank-you cards.
She also said she wants to give them to people who she would have invited if there was room.
I think this is EXTREMELY tacky. It's like saying 'Gee, I didn't think you were important enough to invite to my wedding, here is a consolation prize'.
Your thoughts?

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
I think it's completely unnecessary to send a favor to those not invited.

I agree, if you're not invited don't send a favor.

I personally would not send a favor unless there are extras

I think a thank you card is sufficient. I agree with you it seems tacky to give a favor to someone who was not invited.

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
i personally don't think I would send a favor. Favors typically have the dates of the wedding on them and it's like saying, 'you won't be here on the day of the wedding, but you're not missing anything because I'm sending you these personalized ::enter favor here::!' I'd rather just send a thank-you card to those who send a gift and are not invited to the wedding. JMO.

I dont think you need to send a favor at all. If they send you a gift, a nice thank you note should be fine!

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
i wouldnt send any favor to someone who wasnt invited... if you didnt have the money to have them at your wedding - then i think its tacky to send them a favor for a party that they werent invited to....

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
Thanks. This is what I was trying to tell my mom. I mean, if I invtied someone and they couldn't come at the last minute, then maybe I would save them a favor. But to order extras and give them out to ppl I didn't invite in the first place - tacky!!
She said 'they are giving you a gift, so you have to give them something back.' And I was like 'They are giving me a GIFT.' That means I say thank-you and leave it at that.
She said a cousin gave her a favor when she couldn't go to the wedding. I said the difference is that she was invited but couldn't go. Even so, that is highly out of the norm.

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
Unnecessary!!
However, if anyone sends you a gift, I would definitely send a thank you note (which I have the impression you are planning to do anyway)

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
I agree with you....I think the thank you card for the Engagment gift is more then enough....no need to send a favor of the wedding that they were not invited to...just my opinion

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
I think if they send you a gift or already got y ou a gift, I would just send a thank you card... I don't think there is a need to send a favor.

A thank you note is more than enough. If I received a favor, after I wasn't invited to something, I'd be VERY confused

I have never heard of that, and I agree with you, I think it's a bit insulting.

Re: Wedding Favors for Non-Invitees
I wouldnt send a favor to a guest that was not invited. I think it woudl create more issues than the gesture is worth...
