Wedding insurance

Are you (or did you) getting wedding insurance? If so, and its not wedsafe, who is it?

I'm definitely getting it (using wedsafe). My FH is in the Navy, and I can't trust Uncle Sam to cancel his leave or worst yet deploy him somewhere else. The peace of mind will make the money spent well worth it.

If that's your main reason for getting it I would specifically ask Wedsafe beforehand if they will cover you. We spoke to a representative at a wedding showcase and they made it clear that if the risk of cancellation is known before vendors are booked, they will not cover any lost expenses.

I checked. They do cover it, they just need a copy of the military orders

Not sure exactly. But it definitely doesn't cover damage to the reception facility (let's say your drunken, rowdy guests break something!) or personal injury of you or your guests that day, you need to take out the separate liability policy for that.

I also got insurance. It made sense. So much can happen unexpectedly. It also covers your honeymoon.

Emily made an excellent point about well she put in a lot of research and picked vendors who have been around for along time so she is not concerned (sorry to use you as an example)

But honestly I look at this way - Emily has a point BUT what if you reception hall burns down, or the owner of one of the companies dies and the company folds - OK so these are HUGE IF's but the very fact is that you are spending THOUSANDS on your wedding day and should be confident that IF something like your hall burns down you have MONEY to rebook somewhere last minute so the whole wedding doesn't go under.

I heard about it but it is alot of money. I asked my insurance guy and he said it is a waste of money.

i am going to look into it for coverage of accidents we as hosts could potentially get sued for... i am not yet familiar with the details so i have yet to make a decision...

What do you need to do for coverage of liability, that would be my concern, not so much for the vendors.

not really. if you have any close relatives that are sick and you are nervous something will happen right beofre the wedding to cancel it, then it's good to have.

i mean all insurance is is giving you protection IF something happens. Sure it's like money thrown away but you know that IF something happened and the wedding had to be cancelled (other than a change of heart) then you won't lose all your money.

Re: Wedding insurance

FH and I discussed it when we first booked Fox Hollow and both agreed that it would be a very smart move. Neither of us have the best luck and I am most concerned with snow.
We had to cancel my grandmothers surprise 70th birthday back in 1993 when there was that tremendous blizzzard in march...with no insurance on the party it caused my mom a lot of money and heartache. A whole lot more vendors and $$ is going into our wedding and I don't want to take any chances.
