How far in advance are you supposed to order your invitations?

I just ordered mine about 2 weeks ago for my August wedding.

We are starting the design process now for my October wedding. She gave us a deadline of June to order them. (The printing begins when we pay the rest of the balance.) We're sending them out mid August.

I'm in the middle of my design process, and our wedding is at the end of September. My mom is extremely talented and is doing them for me (saving FH and I sooo much money). I don't think there is anything wrong with starting to look now. Just think about when you want to send them, and start a timeline from there.

I have my first appointment tomorrow for my October wedding. I think it's going to be the hardest decision for me out of the whole wedding so I have to start thinking.

Just ordered mine Monday for mid July wedding. Planning to send them out late April. I agree with ASemderWedding though - figure out your timeline of when you want/need to send them out and work from there.

Thanks for your input, everyone! I wasn't sure how long it took to actually get the invitations once ordered and then sending it to a calligrapher as well. My venue said to wait until right before I want to order invitations to contact them about my start time. If no one books the night affair then I can start my afternoon wedding later on.

I spoke to an invitation person over the weekend who recommended that I order sometime in April as a just in case type of thing. We need our invites earlier because fh has a lot of family out of the country and although most aren't attending (from what I've been told, lol) it's going to take almost month for them to be shipped. We also have a B list so we are planning on sending invites a little earlier so that when we sub people in it doesn't look like they were on the B list.

I ordered mine in jan but I was a little early. I would start to look soon bc wedding season is coming and places start to get busy..I'm using cherished moments invitations if your looking for someone.

Didn't order mine yet!

I did mine 6 months in advance. I didn't use a calligrapher but it was here within the month of the order.

I ordered a bunch of samples at first back in Dec I think...but that was mainly bc I couldn't decide on the fabric I wanted to use for mine. They came about a month after I placed my order. My cousin was mainly in charge of handling my invites, since she deals directly with the company I ordered them from, and they suggested I order them 4-5 months before the wedding. The earlier the better they said.

I ordered mine in November and sent them out right after January 1st for my March wedding.
