Wedding Planner?

Just wondering if anyone here has used a wedding planner or if you think it's a waste of money.

I am planning a NYC wedding from out of state b/c I moved out of NY a few months ago, but 95% of my guests (friends/family etc) all live in NY where I am from and grew up.

Opinions? how helpful are they, really?
