Is anyone using a wedding planner? Does anyone recommend having one and how much does this service usually cost?

I don't know how much planners cost, but DOC's cost about $800-$900. That includes several meetings prior to the big day, where you supply them with all the vendor specifics and plans you made, and their services on the big day....

From what I understand, some wedding planners charge based on a percentage of your total budget - like 10%.
DOC's (day of coordinators) will charge a set fee. I've seen costs from $650 up to $1200 depending on the company.

I have a planner but I think it varies from planner to planner
