I'm planning to hire a wedding planner but my fiancee feels its unnecessary. He told me he talked to his friends and they said it was a waste of money. I dont have married friends and I'm not sure how to handle wedding planning.
Did or are you using a wedding planner. What are the pros and cons of using a planner and can this all be done on my own? please help!

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
I did it all on my own. It was fun and I got exactly what I wanted.

Unless you want some extravagant over-the-top wedding I don't think a planner is necessary. As long as you are willing to do some research on your own about vendors it will be fun. And we are always here if you need more opinions or simply ideas. With me, so far so good

I decided against it also. I feel they will be a pain in the booty. I cant have someone telling me what to do or how to do my wedding. I am my own wedding planner

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
I'm pretty much in agreement with everyone else. I didn't go with one (but secretly wish I could have to avoid a lot of the stress.)
It is pretty much money out the window that could be used elsewhere. If you have the money thats one thing, go for it . If now, save yourself the extra cost.
If I can plan a wedding, believe me, so could you! It's not as hard as everyone makees it out to be....LOL
Good luck and welcome!

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
i was going to get one but as soon as i started with the planning i realized i couldn't give someone else that much control hahaha. I do plan on getting a day of coordinator.
There con is what i just mentioned above, alot of planners think it should be their vision and get very controlling.
The Pro is that they do work with alot of vendors and can get discounts for you, they'll negotiate with vendors for you, they can come up with alot of great ideas and make things easier for you

i am in the middle of deciding whether or not i need a DOC - i am doing some research and then I am going to B E G FH and see if he will let me get one
they are pricey - but when can i actually have someone help me with stuff without feeling bad ( like my MOH or mom or something )
and i definitely need someone to keep my mom in line! LOL

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
the 'can this be done on your own' question is answered by almost every 08' bride on here that has themselves listed as coordinator...we are indeed all superwomen
i think a con has to be that by putting your wedding in someone elses hands, you risk losing some of your personal 'specialness' in it...that may not make sense...it may just sound queer...*shrug*

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
if you have time to meet vendors and do all the pre work yourself- then do that to save money and maybe hire a day of coordinator to take over later. it may be a good way to comprimise with your FH.

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
Thanks everyone for all your support!
A little about myself as requested:
My name is Tassamai (Taz) and I've been with my FI for 5 years. We have gone through so many things together ie death in the family and cancer. He has always been there for me with out any hesitation and i love him so much for that. We're planning an Oct 13th wedding. Our dream wedding is at Bourne Mansion but they're a bit pricey, so we're looking around.
So the reasoning for the wedding planner, I found one who has a great deal (50%) off. I'm not much of a girl and I really dont want to be stressed out about my wedding, I tend to stress a lot. I also don't really have many people to help me with the wedding like little details. I noticed a lot of brides said that someone else will be in control of my details that is a huge con but stress level for me will be alleviated. I just really want an unstressful wedding. But what wedding isnt stressful

Re: Wedding planner yes or no
Oh and one more thing, i have a limited budget and I'm not good at saying no to myself and the same goes for my FI. The planner I met said she will stay on budget and will find alternatives for me if I wanted something.
