i am using a day of coordinator
as far as a wedding planner goes... what exactly do you mean? are you looking for someone to plan everything with you? to do your DIY type stuff? to call when you're totally stressing? or to just help you book things and get you deals?

well with wedding planners you have 3 choices

day of coordinator

full planning-which is from the beginning, helping you book vendors and overlook everything

then theres partial planning-which means you booked most of your vendors and need someone to help with decor, all the loose ends and things that need to be done. To pay the final payments to vendors, handle all that the contracts, take care of any problems that arise and so on

i think anything a planner can do you can do yourself. IMO its a waste of money i have planned and done everything mysellf sp far and done a pretty good job i might say lol. I am sure if you tell yourself you HAVE to get these things done you can pull it together. But if u really want to book a planner than go for it if its gonna mke it easier for you.

well think about why you may want them. Yes they do have alot of connections with vendors and get you get deals bc of it. They also are good at negotiating and can negotiate other contracts for you. It is also great that they can do all the running around for you especially if you dont have alot of time to do these things.

My problem is them trying to take over and making it just their ideas, but there are many who will execute just your ideas.

It all depends though on why you may want one and if you can really benefit from one.

that would annoy me if they thought they were running the show!

Re: wedding planners?

basically, if you're already booked with all your vendors, asking a friend, a relative, or even someone you don't know that well to help is a great idea that saves you money and stress.
however, i don't know if you'd want to risk friendships and stuff.
i'm sure i'm babbling now...
but basically, I was the 'wedding planner' for a few of my friends. I am not that close to any of them, but I love weddings and all the planning and details and what not, and i'm a budget kinda gal so i was good at keeping their wallets in check.

if you know someone like that, you could ask them to help.

well they're all different so you would have to meet with them and see who you click with and who will listen to your ideas.

After my e-party my mom said 'you better hire a wedding planner' but i haven't and still iffy about it but the e-party was like a rehearsal for the wedding and i dont want to put everyone through the same thing for my wedding, i want them to relax and just enjoy. I had alot of running around to do, i had to buy LOTS of things from the city and take the train home with everything and it was torture, i had 160 boxes, enough fabrice for 15 tables and then some which is HEAVY and i didnt know, tons of cardstock, big vases, cases of candles and a bunch of other things. Because of the time stores close my poor mother had to go into the city to pick up the boxes of flowers, then had to make another trip for other things since she worked close to the places.

Not to mention the hours she spent to help me with DIY projects. The week of was torture, and even the night before i had friends and my mom sitting for hours to put boxes of favors together, menu's, ribbon around the candles, and a bunch of other things. I really was about to lose my mind.

So i would love someone to help run errands but not willing to give up control so thats why i havent.

BUT also keep in mind budget and if a wedding planner is in your budget, if not dont worry everything does get done and you can have others help you and also get alot of ideas on here
