my sister used one and I didnt think she was that much of a help. Her planner was a close firend of her MIL so I just felt like she was over stepping. What planner comes to try on wedding gowns!!I think I just clashed with this women. The day of the wedding everything was perfect and I could tell she was running the show. making sure the photographers officiant bar tenders ect were doing the right thing. So I guess she did her job. Planners do alot of your foot work for you and can help haggle for you.
I'm debating doing a DOC

This! I don't think a planner is necessary but a DOC is super helpful on the day of. It just makes life so much easier for you, your bridal party and your Mom. Someone else gets to be the point person.
