I just got the little wedding bells off ebay at 17 cents per bell. I have seen these in catalogs for 50 cents, and up to a dollar per bell!! They are the same bells, come with the same poem. How is it that the catalog people feel they can charge THAT much?? Obviously the person on ebay is making SOMETHING as they sell a lot of these bells.
I made a simple chart for comparing prices of items between the numerous supplier catalogs. Some charge sales tax, some don't. Some have cheaper shipping, and some have cheaper prices. I understand that is all part of business, and it is up to me as the consumer to make my little chart and comparison shop to get the best price. But when I see you can get stuff from ebay at a true fraction of the price, I wonder how badly I am going to be ripped off for these other things.
I am sick of getting ripped off because it is a wedding.
End of rant.

DianaL....ditto!
I have to tell you that ANY and ALL arguments my FH and I have had while planning this wedding have been over money - and not just spending money - but the fact that anything that has the word 'wedding' attached to it seems to cost twice as much. My FH just can't handle it, and although I can't blame him, I try to explain that I do research before even bringing the information to him (it's the librarian in me I guess). We are almost done with vendors - florist is the last big one - and we made a decision to avoid any arguments...I will tell him how much I spent (we set a budget), but I won't tell him exactly what was included in that price. That way he doesn't have to flip over the cost of a boutonniere! He said it's easier for him to swallow that way...
I didn't mean to vent about all this - but I just agree 100% with you! Thanks for listening (reading)!!

DianaL.
I saw HUGE differences in prices one various items when I shopped for our wedding, and I never even looked on eBay while doing my on-line shopping.
Probably the one that sticks with me most was for wedding programs .. one place wanted double of what truevinebooks.com was charging for the very same product, plus the shipping was more expensive too!
It is frustrating that we all have to waste so much of our time trying to make sure we`re getting a good price on everything, and it leaves you always wondering, 'is this the cheapest or should I keep looking?' Truly annoying!!

that`s were this site comes in...
At least we have each other to share information on good deals, good vendors, and whatever we need to vent about. God knows, this site has been the single most helpful thing so far. I`m just glad we have each other. I`ve gotten great tips from you girls, and I try to share mine whenever possible. After all in a world of decietful vendors, and people marking up prices 200% because it is 'wedding related', us brides have to look out for each other!

We haven't fought over the cost (yet) because he knows I am researching everything to get the best price possible. I let him know when I get great deals like the ebay buy, so he sees that we CAN have the little extras without breaking the bank.
I have gotten my best deals online so far, and have yet to order from one of the catalogs (and the pile is getting larger every day).

YOu are absolutely correct, Taraalissa! Not only the present opinion but the search feature is great too! I check vendors searching the posts back 2 years to get a variety of opinions and details. Many vendors look a bit surprised to hear this, but it allows me to bring concerns right out in the open.

KEL Thank You!
for the tip on truevinebooks.com. I found the perfect cover for my ceremony programs. Question: Can you print on them with your computer, like adding the names and date to the cover? Did you add pages to the inside and does regular paper work? I will probably get gold edged paper, but just wanted to know the size of the cover. They don't have that info on the site.
Thanks again!

Kel-truevinebooks (wedding programs-church)
I just tried to go to the truevine website to check out the price of wedding programs. This is the first time I priced this item and I saw $9.95. Is that for one? Is that half price of what you saw other places? This sounds very high to me. Maybe I was looking at the wrong item. Can you tell me what you paid for church programs and how it typicaly works? Thanks

DianaL - Your welcome!
I`m sure you could probably print right on the cover .. but I would do a test run first on a scrap piece of paper to make sure everything is aligned just right.
We printed our own programs. The printing was the easy part .. just run X amont of copies .. the hard part was setting up the file in MicroSoft Word. Well, not that it`s hard .. but I wanted everything just so .. the names to all line up a certain way, the margins to be a certain way, the text to break in a clean spot before spilling over to the 2nd page .. so you can imagine how long it took.
The programs are the standard letter size .. 8.5 x 11, before being folded. We didn`t add any pages to the program, just used the inside. Some of the designs are wrap around, but the one we chose was blank on the back .. with maybe a small copyright or something on the bottom edge, so if we had to, we could have used this space as well.
We chose u6158.

They are sold in packs of 100, so the price of $9.95 you saw would be for 100 programs. When I purchased the programs for our wedding, they were a little cheaper than the current price of $9.95, but they are still a lot cheaper than the other site .. where they are selling for up to $16.95 for the same pack of 100!

Kel-Now that price sounds much better :)
Thanks. I didn't see that it said packs of 100. Thank you for clearing that up.
