Wedding ring upgrade?

Wedding ring upgrade?

Hey- just a question for you ladies.

FH says while buying my engagement ring, jeweler told him that it's very common for couples to 'upgrade' their wedding bands after a few years- usually because they're in a better financial situation and can swing something a little nicer.

I'm certainly okay with more jewelry, but it seems to me the wedding rings you use during the actual exchange of vows are pretty significant. We're also a little older and well-established in our careers. I don't expect we'll be struggling financially.

We're getting ready to buy our bands in the next couple of weeks so I'm curious to see if you have any thoughts on the matter.

Thanks!
Lauren

We bought rings that we both liked and would wear for years to come. This is not 'Tiffany' (this is not us!) but we were happy with our selection.

Some people buy 'cheaper' rings due to their financial situation yet they still like their rings.

If you have the money, buy the rings that you want.

I don't plan on updated mine.

I don't plan to change/upgrade my rings either. I love both my e-ring and band and feel they are so significant I could never change them. I'm certainly not opposed to more jewelry over the years, but nothing will change on my left ring finger!

I say..if you are financially stable, go for the fancier rings so you won't feel the need for an upgrade a few years down the road. I am not opposed to some more bling one day but it certainly would not be replacing my wedding band I said my vows with. It is a personal coice though. Good luck!

I've heard of that -- it's what my mom actually did. JMO, but I don't think that upgrading your band some day will take away from the fact that you were married in another. The one you were married in will always be near and dear to your heart.

When FH & I went for wedding bands, I wanted a simple channel set eternity band. I've got little hands, so personally, I thought a big band wouldn't look right on me. FH has this thing about having me in nice and extravgant jewelry though (which is sweet but not necessary) and he wanted me to get a band that was a lot more expensive that we had budgeted. So an upgrade was exactly what I mentioned to him, not necessarily that I wanted one, but that its a possiblity.
