wedding traditions and what they mean-FYI

Just as an FYI, thought I'd share why we do certain things:
Bridal bouquet has sybolized fertility, fragility, and purity. We throw the bouquet to single women to sybolize new life and to pass on bride's good fortune
The veil of course represents modesty and respect and that the physical relationship is to be entered into only after the vows are complete.
Rice and Petals- symbolize fertility
Something Old, Something New- the passage from old unmarried state to new married union. Something borrowed symbolizes union of community and blue signifies purity, love and fidelity.
white aisle runner- walking on holy ground
special seating of parents- the commitments they make during the ceremony are just as binding as the vows of the couple. The final responsibility of parents for their children is to determine with them 'God's will' for a life partner.
The groom entering first- by this action, the groom signifies that he is the convenant initiator. This is important because whoever initiates the convenant assumes greater responsibility for seeing it fulfilled
Taking each other right hand- the open right hand offered by each party symbolizes strength, resources and purpose. By joining hands you are joinging together each of your unique resources into the marriage convenant.
The groom making the first marriage vow- he again is assuming greater responsibility, commiting himself to the purposes of marriage.
Kissing the bride- In roman times, the kiss between a couple symbolized a legal bond. Continued use of the kiss to seal the marriage bond is based on deeply rooted idea of the kiss as a vehicle of transference of power and souls.
Signing the guest book- your wedding guests are official witnesses to the covenant. They are saying 'I have witnessed the vows and I will testify to the reality of this marriage.'
The bride and groom feeding wedding cake-
represents sharing of their body to become one.

Anyone, all of that are direct quotes from some book I was reading. Just thought if anyone wanted to know....

so he should be doing all this planning???
