...I know the subject sounds like a 'DUHHH' kind of comment, but I never realized until I started talking with vendors how expensive things really are :( I had this budget in mind when I started planning, and now it almost feels like everything has to be adjusted for us to have a small piece of the wedding we envisioned. It's just becoming a bit frustrating and difficult to find something that we like but can also afford.
For example, just realized that wedding officiants are around 350-450 instead of the $50-100 I thought (I think I got this number from a movie I once saw, hah), and also realizing the really good photographers are in the few thousands instead of low ones.
Anyhow, sorry just my little rant of the day!

I am in the same boat as you. My wedding budget keeps growing by the minute :( and it seems like there is nothing else we can cut....lol

They def are! That's why I started our budget high to begin w/ bc I've seen all my friends get married and knew how much they spent. I figure there was no point trying to lie to ourselves

All photogs are not in the high thousands.. You just have to go with photogs that are not 'wedding photographers' because the minute they hear Wedding they charge an arm and a leg.. or a newer company that does it as a hobby... I know photo is IMPORTANT but I shopped around and I got an awesome deal for 2 photogs, UNLIMITED coverage, albums, and an e-shoot under 2K...

dude, no joke! When I was looking for an officiant, I was FLOORED at how expensive they are! I mean, for someone who is going to be there for 30 minutes, I thought it would be like $100. So ridiculous. The minute you say 'wedding' everything doubles in price!

well, if you don't need a religious officiant, you could always pay to get your friend or family member ordained and have him / her marry you. I think that costs $50-ish. Plus, you'd get that extra-personal touch. Just make sure they're a good public speaker
as for your photographer, the 'big' companies cost thousands of dollars ... but the smaller ones can cost about $1000 (or even less) and be just as good.
And if you REALLY want to save money oh photography, you could hire a photography student (or someone startng their career) from craigslist ... but that'd be a bit of a gamble ...

I hear ya girl. We started out with a budget , that would make us royalty in Nebraska, but wouldn't get us much in NY. We have since increased it by 12,000 and i think we may go up a couple of thousand more once all is said and done. Looking back, I wish I would have chosen a destination wedding. But since that didn't happen, we are making the best out of everything.

Luckily we are under budget, I haggled a great deal!!!!!!!!!! Even though we are under budget I am still freaking out about the cost!!!! There are many ways to save $$$$$$$ that you can utilize, so don't jump the gun just yet.

This was one of the reasons we decided to go with a church than do it at the RH..plus it gave us time for pics without cutting into our party time.

It's actually free to become ordained! As long as you do not marry within NYC, you don't need to register with the city (guess that is what costs money). FH is ordained and has married a couple!

I agree... as we were pricing out djs and photographers i went home one night and wrote down EVERYTHING we'll be buying for the wedding...
I added everything up and was omg! I had da mental budget but it's a good amount more.... I was adding everything from RH, DJ, Photographer, BP Gifts, Honeymoon, Rings, Officiant... etc! I think we all have sticker shock when we see the final amount totaled up

awww Adelina!!! u're not feeling alone on this one! I hate when is time for the bills to be paid, specially the venue one, since it's the most espensive
