Hello ladies on this very snowy day! Hope some of you have the day off
The QOTD is.....
Where do you and FH plan to buy your first home, and if you have a house together do you like where you live?
The reason I ask this is because FH and I are having a difficult time trying to decide where we want to buy our first home. FH works in Manhattan, and I go to school in Nassau. The obvious choice would be somewhere in Nassau but I'm from Suffolk and I really miss it! I would really like to be close to friends and family especially if we start a family. I wouldn't want to travel 45 minutes everytime I want to get together with someone. FH says it's not fair for him to have to travel from Suffolk We are just going to have to compromise!

meh. we would like the north shore - either port washington, oyster bay, northport village. i say 'meh' because that's assuming we can afford to buy a house anytime in the next 100 years. we live with FMIL now in a 2 family in franklin sq. not loving that. lol

I love where we live (Massapequa, Plainedge shools) and we 'could' stay there forever.... but someday we would where we live. We bought the house in a neighborhood we knew had great schools and that we loved knowing we we would be there a long time!

FH and I live in a house rented from my Great Uncle in Queens. Honestly, it's a wreck. The plumbing/electricity/windows, pretty much everything s*cks on it. BUT, FH and his father (mostly his father) are handy guys, so if we could get this house on the cheap, we'd be able to fix it up exactly how we want it and it'd be really nice!
We've already put so much work into this house that we would like to buy it. We'll see how that goes in the next 12 mos!
ETA: Currently, we live in Elmhurst over by the Queens Center mall. Both of our families live in Middle Village, so we'd like to stay in the area.

well, FH currently lives and works in BK and will continue to work in BK after we get married. I live and work in Nassau. Ideally, I would love to stay in Old Bethpage but thats really out of our price range.....
We are comprimising and finding somewhere in the beginning of Nassau so our commutes can both be about 25 minutes. Not fair for him to have to drive 1hr to work and me 10 minutes. Hopefully Rockville Centre (if we can afford), Williston Park, Carle Place, etc.....

FH works in melville but i work and go to school in the city. So for the next few years we'll stay in the area where in now, Western Nassau. Eventually we might move to western suffolk or eastern nassau.

FH is from Syosset and obsessed with living there. I got excessed from Jericho Schools last year, but am on a callback list, so Jericho/Syosset/Woodbury for us. We've been looking for a year and haven't found anything that we have both not been able to pass up. It's such a big decision.

We have a condo in Chicago, exactly 2 blocks away from Lake Michigan. We loved it at first, but we quickly outgrew it. PLUS, condo living ***** when you have a bitchy upstairs neighbor who hates your dogs! So, we'll try to sell soon and the plan is to move to Georgia! *fingers crossed*

Re: ******Wednesday QOTD*******
we currently rent together in the city. as much as i looove living in the city I am so ready to buy a house where i can have more space and a washer and dryer and a yard for our doggy.
fh is now reverse commuting to Hicksville so when we buy a house it will probably be somewhere in nassau...close for him and not a bad commute into manhattan for me

Re: ******Wednesday QOTD*******
This is hard for both of us. He is really sick of NY. He was born and raised in Queens, and wants a house and a backyard to raise a family. I love living in Queens, but I definitely see what he is saying. He also hates this weather. He says he wants to move to California, and part of me would love that, but we BOTH don't want to be that far from family.
He has been talking about NJ a lot. Thinks it's cheaper with taxes compared to LI and more property compared to Queens and Nassau. I think a lot of places in NJ are expensive though.
We will probably look in Queens, LI, and NJ. See what the best is that we can find. I mentioned NJ and my mom almost flipped. hahah It's just so expensive it's depressing
We live in an apt in Queens now, and the neighborhood is ok. Not as hopping and good places to eat as where I used to live in Astoria though. I Astoria.

We're not sure where we really want to 'settle'. Ideally I'd like to get away from the city...though part of me loves it so much. He feels the same.
But for now, we'll be residing at his apartment in Ozone Park (Queens) post-wedding, which is in a house that he owns with his parents, so it's secure and stable. And his parents do not live there.
