Week has been getting better and better (promotion, sort of)
I’ve been here a year this past November. I took this job as ‘Insurance Assistant’ which was a step way down from being a Senior Claim Representative. I took the job because they will pay for me to go back to college and most importantly they were offering me $4,000 more to do a job that is 1000 times less stressful!
I have no college degree and my last job wouldn’t allow me to get a Brokers License (claims people don’t need one). I do however have three profession designations.
So today I get a call “Got a minute” from the boss. I walk in and she says. “The department heads have recognized that you and Karen (my coworker) no longer fit into the typical Insurance Assistant title, therefore your title has been changed. You are now a Client Representative Level 1”
I’m so happy!
It used to be a rubbing point that I do all the work of our brokers without any recognition or title. I mainly didn’t complain cause if you’ve ever done Claims for 3 years you KNOW it could be worse. But we’ve always had an issue with being called “Assistant” in such a way that associated a lower level personnel when we run accounts independently without supervision.
I still do the same job, just with a title now that I is more appropriate.
LOL I love this.
I was hired under a condition … NO PROMOTIONS FOR TWO YEARS! My job history shows a record of being an “overachiever” It was a big no no “we hired you to do this job and would not like to see you leave it for at least 3 years, if possible.”
Oops!

Here I'll do my best.. Its the Insurance Industry.. what can I say?
I work with US Based Fortune 500 companies handling their overseas (international) liability exposure.
Example: XYZ Corp sells cosmetics worldwide. If they are sued overseas because one of their booths had a glass sign that fell and shatter causing the customer to have a scratch..
We (my department) handles the Insurance to cover such as exposures and other liability that may occur. We go to Insurance companies (ACE, AIG..etc) and have them quote an insurance policy that best fits our clients needs. We also make sure our clients are correctly insured for their business and make sure their multiple international country exposures are covered.
My job is everything from Asking the questions, Making up the submission to the Insurance Companies for them to base their quotes on, Comparing one companies quote to another, Presenting our “recommendations” to our clients, Informing the Winning Company who got the business, Interact with our own International Network to make sure our clients have local people in each country who they can ask insurance questions without going to ‘the company’ and get answers from, I instruct our International Network of policies that we have bound in the US that effect them locally and make sure they all issue their own individual local policies (in local language and currency) correctly and in line with what we sold the client.
Details Details Details. But yes, I love my job.. It’s fast paced, face to face with BIG companies and businesses and well as I really feel like I’m “doing something” which I think is key to happiness at the job. I’m not just pushing paper; I’m making sure some woman in Bulgaria who sues my client won’t leave my client legally out to dry.

Thanks for the explanation. As far as the insurance industry goes, it actually sounds interesting! I hear 'insurance' and I just assume it's individual coverage, like someone got a Pap test or a dent in their car.
